Beyond The Sea Trailer

beyondthesea.jpgKevin Spacey rules. A decent actor can look brilliant when in a great movie. But it takes someone really special to look great in a decent or bad film. Spacey has done both on a consistent basis. He elevates great movies like Se7en, L.A. Confidential, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, American Beauty, The Shipping News and The Usual Suspects. He also gives something worth talking about in not-so-great flicks like The Negotiator, Pay It Forward, K-PAX, and The Life of David Gale.

Now he's starring in his Hollywood directorial debut Beyond The Sea. One synopsis for the film summarizes it like this:

For BOBBY DARIN (Kevin Spacey), performing was his life. It kept his heart beating. He came alive onstage, even when he was near collapse offstage. In BEYOND THE SEA, Bobby tells his own story.

Directorial debut? Sorry, but didn't he also direct "Albino Alligators" in the late 90's?

Good eye Alex. I actaully didn't think Alligator got wide release, so I listed this one as his "Hollywood" (ie. major wide release) directorial debut. Just semantics. But you're probably right.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bobby Darin!! If Kevin Spacey sings Beyond the Sea, I think I will probably pass out in the theater. Ooh! I'm so excited now!

OK--Alibino Alligator is right, his first directorial debut. But anyways, Kevin is stunning in this film and his singing blows me away--it's not the best, but it's damn good--and I think that anyone who has the opportunity to see this movie should because this wasn't made as a big hollywood blockbuster, but it was a project that Mr. Spacey really believed in and wanted to accomplish brilliantly, which he did.
