Japanese Appleseed DVD to Release in November, But No English Subtitles. Same Deal for Hideaki Anno's Live Action Cutie Honey Adaptation.

appleseed.jpgSigh. I was really hoping that this would be subtitled but the fact that there is an American rights holder pretty much guaranteed that it wouldn't. Of the big three anime films already released in Japan thus far this year Appleseed looks to have the largest kick-ass crowd pleasing quotient and I've been itching to see it. The Japanese DVD has just been announced for release in November, in both regular and excessive collector editions, but as was the case with the recently announced Japanese DVD for Innocence it will not include English subtitles. Apparently this will also be the case for the much praised live action edition of Cutie Honey due for release in the next few months. Sigh. Sure, the local editions will be cheaper but the packaging won't be nearly as cool and I'll have to wait sooooo looooong ...

Oh well. At least they got it right with Casshern.

Oh, I haven't forgotten about Arahan. We've devoted entire posts to it and linked to the limited edition as soon as it was announced. It's not mentioned in that list because this post is dealing specifically with Japanese DVD releases of anime and live action anime adaptations. Arahan's Korean and, as far as I know, is an original work not based on a preceding anime or manga.
