Only 3 in the Fantastic Four?

fantastic3.jpg
Well not exactly.

But three of of four have actually been cast. No news yet on who will play the nemisis Doctor Doom, but rumours are bouncing around as to who will play Sue Richards (ironically the "Invisible Woman") which also hasnt been assigned.

From ComingSoon.net:
"20th Century Fox has cast Michael Chiklis (TV's The Shield) to play Ben Grimm/The Thing, Ioan Gruffudd (King Arthur) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Chris Evans (Cellular) as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch in its Fantastic Four adaptation.

The $85 million-$90 million adaptation of the Marvel comic is headed for an August or September start in Vancouver. The planned release date is July 1, 2005, when it will face off against Paramount's Mission: Impossible 3. Tim Story is directing from a script by Simon Kinberg."

I am hopeful about the FF movie, as I am with ANY comic book adaptation to film. Oddly, I am not too familar with any of these performers.

Who do YOU think might make a good Sue Richards?

I don't know what I think of her as the Invisible Woman yet, but there have been a lot of rumors circulating that Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, The Notebook) was given the script

Chiklis is nowhere near big enough to be The Thing. If they actually go this route they may as well just go ahead and do a 100% CG character since they're going to have to replace and manipulate absolutely every scene that Chiklis is in, anyway.

I had read somewhere that the Thing will be a total CGI character. Chiklis was simply to play him when he was not in stoneform, and voice the CGI.

Originally the Thing could change back and forth from stone form to normal joe mode. Eventually he became stuck in the stone after a botched experiment to "cure" himself. No word as to which way they are going for the film, but at very least he will be all pink and soft for the origin story.

I just read somewhere that Jessica Alba was set to play Sue Richards (The Invisible Woman).
Though she might not be officially cast yet.

I've seen a couple episodes of The Shield, he isn't terrible. I thought that was Bruce Willis at first, I thought that would be pretty cool.

The guy you have for Reed is awful. Size no longer matters when it comes to movies. We have all seen what can be done in the LOTR movies. So if Chiklis can play the part good then it doesn't matter.

Posted by: Bombadil at July 8, 2004 06:18 PM

Well I dont have anyone for Reed. That's just the guy that the studios decided to give the part to.

These are not my selections, these are the real deal.

Posted by: Rodney at July 8, 2004 07:52 PM

The rumor I heard was Elisha Cuthbert for Sue Richards. I would like to see Angelina Jolie in the part. But, then again, I would like to see Angelina Jolie in any part. Claire Forlani or Elizabeth Shue would be interesting choices.

Posted by: Scott at July 9, 2004 03:56 AM

Elisha would be an interesting choice. I always liked her charisma, even as a kid on educational tv.

Elisabeth Shue would be good if the ages were right, but the distracting Miss Shue is 40 years old now. And the guy they have for Reed is 29.

Remember that Sue Richards is to be pretty close in age to her husband Reed, and slightly older than her younger brother Johnny.

Mmmm. Claire Forlani. Mmmm.

OK GUYS CASTING SHOULD HAVE BEEN GEORGE CLOONEY AS MR, FANTASTIC //OK WITH CHOICE AS BEN ,,JOHNNY STORM SHOULD BE THE YOUNG KID FROM 7TH HEAVEN AND SUE SHOULD BE CHRISTINE TAYLOR...AKA BEN STILLERS WIFE SEE DODGEBALL

Posted by: velkarr at July 9, 2004 08:28 PM

They were looking at Clooney at one point, actually ... I wonder what happened with that. I totally agree that he'd be a good fit ...

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2004 09:26 PM

I believe since the current cast is fairly young looking (Ben was always older than the others) that someone like Clooney just wouldnt fit in.

Posted by: Rodney at July 11, 2004 03:28 AM

I heard that the Invisible girl will be played by me.....since I have the most experience....most attractive women don't see me anyway.

Well, it's official, the hollywood reporter and many other sites are reporting that Jessica Alba has officially been cast as Sue Storm. She wouldn't have been my first choice, hopefully she'll do a good job.

Posted by: twitch at July 14, 2004 06:01 PM

I think they might have chosen a better actor for reed richards, i like jessica alba, as a sex simbol no to play sue, she doesn´t fit the comic-book stereotype

Posted by: josh at July 15, 2004 12:01 AM

Jessica Alba as Sue Richards??? Doesn't look right at all. Even though Jessica Alba is nothing short of beautiful, she doesn't look like a Sue Richards.

I think the following actors/actress would be perfect.

Reed Richards: David Duchovny
Reason: Same color hair. Playing Mulder in X-files, he talks just like Reed Richards in the Comic book. Looks just about the right age of actual comic book character. Perfect match.

Sue Richards: Tea Leoni
Reason: Looks great as a middle age blonde. Sue Richards is a chacter that's probably in her 30's.
In the comic books Sue is 'stunning', so is Tea Leoni. Perfect match.

Ben Grimm:John Bradshaw Layfield (WWF Super Star)
Same hair color....6 foot 6, 290 lbs. He even looks like Ben. Perfect match.

Johnny Storm:Chris O'Donnell
Reason:Same hair color. Young handsome guy. Comes off as being eccentric in his other movies.
Perfect match.

Not to pick, but the cast chosen was to reflect a younger FF since this is going to be an origin story.

Even ODonnell (currently 34) cant pull off the "youngest member" image anymore.

Your choices seem to be alright but you didnt consider the ages that these characters were supposed to be. The current cast is probably accurate as it is going to get.

I don't agree with Alba either as I don't see her as a blonde. But then for the most part she is going to be invisible, so who really cares.

Lets hope this isnt as crap as some of the comic book movies that have been doing the rounds lately :(
