If you took the happiness of Requiem for a Dream, and crammed it into the wonder of 'youthful outdoor exploration', you may end up with something that looks an awful lot like Mean Creek.

Mean Creek has been making the festival rounds, but this is the first time it has ever graced my brain. And for a directorial debut, this sucker looks like it has the disturbing potential of being very dark and very good.
