Casshern DVD Releases October 23rd!

cassherndvd.jpgLadies and gentlemen, I present to you the current front page of the Casshern website. Hallelujah! And for those wondering why you should care about a Japanese film you've likely never heard of I present this trailer. October's going to be a VERY expensive month for me. And now off I go in search of a spec sheet ...

**** UPDATE **** Whee! English subtitles ARE included and it's got a DTS track as well! Nummy!

**** UPDATE AGAIN **** Yesasia now has the DVD available for pre-order here. The price is a bit higher than what you'll find on Japanese sites, but once you factor in the free shipping and the fact that they've got shipping depots in the US, Canada and the UK so you won't get hit for customs fees, this will be the cheapest option if you're buying a single copy.

bubba, you just made my whole weekend.

Whee! Mine, too. It's not listed at Yesasia yet, but as soon as it is I'll post a direct link to order it ... Japanese retailers have got it up for pre-order, but you'll get hammered on customs going that route ...

Do I even have to ask? You know what to do.

Posted by: KungFuGuy at July 31, 2004 02:53 PM

awesome

Posted by: Daniel at July 31, 2004 03:31 PM

Finally! Can't wait. I'm guessing it's going to have a high price tag? and that I'm gonna get slayed by customs when I get it imported... oh well, who cares, it's Casshern!!!

Posted by: Luke Seeley at August 1, 2004 01:14 PM

Sweet!!! Thanks for the lowdown. Now excuse me while I scream like a little schoolgirl...

Posted by: opus at August 1, 2004 04:09 PM

Since my local dealer in germany does not import japan dvds any more, i have to order casshern from yesasia. hope they do ship to my country ?!

Posted by: mr. furious at August 3, 2004 07:56 AM

hey "mr.furious" i think yesasia ship to everywhere on the planet... i am going to preorder it there too. now : when will "appleseed" and "steamboy" and "innocence" get subbed releases? this casshern one happened pretty quickly...

Posted by: logboy at August 4, 2004 12:07 PM

I doubt the Japanese releases of any of those other titles will include subs since all are due for US theatrical releases. Sucks. If Innocence was subbed I'd already have it on order ...

Posted by: Bubba at August 4, 2004 06:06 PM

FYI: This is available on Amazon.co.jp, $41 shipped to the US.

Can't.. Fuckin'.. Wait.. !!!

Posted by: Corey at August 10, 2004 04:37 AM

The only problem is, its in dvd2 format though, right? So you guys can't watch it. Please correct me if I am wrong!!

Posted by: Matt Rodgers at August 15, 2004 05:35 PM

It's region two, yes, but I can watch it just fine. I've got an all region player, as do quite a few people around here. I know at least one of the people on this thread is in the UK, as well, so they'll be able to watch it just fine with standard equipment there.

Posted by: Bubba at August 16, 2004 06:36 AM

actually, the UK's video standard is PAL, while japan's standard is NTSC (like the US), so despite both being the same region, it's incompatible. however, most tvs in europe are multisystem; that is, they play both PAL and NTSC.
since japanese DVDs are NTSC, you just need a multiregion player to play them if you're in the US. unfortunately, multisystem tvs or DVD players aren't common there, but it is possible to import them in case you want to play PAL standard DVDs (www.hkflix.com is a reliable source).

nice1 m8, cannot wait to see this film

Posted by: Stealth at August 24, 2004 05:46 PM

am i missing something? it says its in dvd region code 2 format. so would it be viewable?

Posted by: taoofme at September 3, 2004 06:34 PM

If the movie's ntsc then there shouldn't be any problems playing it in North America. Being that it's region 2 however, there will be a slight issues with those that do no have region-free dvd players. Anyhow, Casshern... w00t!

... or you can just search for it on Amazon when it is released an buy the Chinese junk version for significantly less. They are region free. Personally, I plan on buying this when I visit Shanghai in late October... and I'll only be paying $1.50. ;)

I ve already seen this at the weekend
There was a film festival in sweden
Needless to say Id like it on DVD too!
Its really that great!

Its a wonderful mix of CGI and real action
casting a wonderful visual spell over the audience.
Slow to kick off but ultimately beautiful to watch when the action kicks in its really mesmerising and its a long movie over 2 hrs
But I didnt notice this (and I usually do) so IT IS GOOD!!!

Don't forget to use coupon SFC2004Q3 at yesasia for $5 off or spend a couple bucks more and use coupon XPYES2004 for $10 off a $60 order..

OH HELL YEAH! pricey, but bloody hell. im importing this bad boy!

Posted by: Spagman at October 14, 2004 01:47 AM

i got my casshern dvd yesterday. my first thoughts are... i have to watch it again - some parts of the storyline were hard to understand ( for example the short puppet-animation szene). But anyway, casshern is a visually breathtaking movie with a beautiful soundtrack!

Posted by: mr. furious at October 29, 2004 08:33 AM

so when is region one coming out? :(

Posted by: Gally at November 9, 2004 11:06 AM

Hey, where can you purchase this film?? Does best buy or any movie stores carry it yet??

Posted by: Riven at November 9, 2004 03:19 PM

im looking for casshern dvd (pal) version
does anyone know where i can get this from? THANKS!

Posted by: pablo at November 23, 2004 10:12 PM

@pablo - why are you looking for a pal version? if you are from europe (pal standard) then you need a region 2 dvd and as a matter of fact, japanese dvds are code 2. tvs & dvd players are to 99% able play ntsc discs - only the region code matters.

Posted by: mr. furious at November 24, 2004 02:01 AM

Well , which one should i get , ive been sittin here reading all your posts and comments but it was never really concluded on what is teh best version to get Im in USA and i have a Region Free dvd/xvid player

Posted by: Khameleon808 at January 10, 2005 09:12 AM

I just picked up the VCD and saw it! It was really good! Normally most sci-fi live actions are crap (like Final Fantasy), meaning very good visual effects but sucked on the story...but this one have good CGI and good plot too!

They managed to take a classic old cartoon super hero character, transform it with good dark and gritty story telling! I give this movie 2-thumbs up!

Posted by: frankie at March 10, 2005 09:10 AM

I had such high hopes for this film....
Every frame is beautifully shot, but when strung together it forms an incoherent, uneven and ultimately boring film that looks pretty but has no pacing and preaches far too much.

4/10

OUTSTANDING! A visual feast, beautifully shot, and a gripping story line that leaves you wanting more.

10/10

Does anyone know when this DVD will be released here in the US. It is slated for 2005 but doesn't specify. I have wanted this movie since I first saw a clip in Miami and DAMN...what a work of art. So if someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
