Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events Trailer/Tv Spot. News to me....

Okay, apparently, this is a Tv Spot, but folks, I'll be honest, I hadn't even heard of this: A Series of Unfortunate Events, Due December of this year. - Although I gotta hand it to Mr. Carrey, sure he's eccentric, and maybe it's the outfit, but this actually looks delightfully fun - and although 1 minute is by no means a lot to judge an actor's character over, Jim seems to have a subtle disturbance in this character and [actor mode:] his energy really seemes to be held much higher. [end of mode]. Jim really does a good job from what I see. If anyone knows anything about this sucker, leave a comment, cause apparently, I know nothing.

(I don't even know what Lemony Snicket *IS*.. or WHO it is, I guess I should say.)
Oh look at that! 2 minutes of research and apparently, it's a book-related thing.. people still read?

Yes, that picture IS Jim Carrey

It's a big series of kids books ... haven't started reading them yet but they're supposed to be quite good ...

Posted by: Bubba at May 25, 2004 04:33 PM

I know adults who enjoy them more than the Harry Potter series. I think they're intended to be a bit darker.

Posted by: Ben at May 25, 2004 05:58 PM

Has anybody here read the His Dark Materials books? That's another set that I've been meaning to check out ... film version of those is coming down the pipe now, too ...

Posted by: Bubba at May 25, 2004 06:14 PM

I read the first of the series a little over a year ago, probably the darkest 'kids' book I've ever read, but a good story nonetheless. Should make for an interesting film. His Dark Materials is high on my 'to read' list

Posted by: G at May 25, 2004 11:17 PM

Yeah, kids books. Darn entertaining kids books, in the same funny/grotesque vein as Neil Gaiman's "Coraline."

Posted by: Scott at May 26, 2004 03:19 AM

Yup. It's a "kid's" series, all right. I'm 21, though, and enjoying them. They *are* a helluva lot more Gothic than most children's books. The author doesn't condescend to his readers, either, and he's not afraid of introducing complex concepts in weird ways. Hope the movie doesn't suck!

I love every single book in the Series of Unfortunate Events. I got my first book in the sixth grade (as I am only thirteen years of age)and I literally couldn't pull my nose away. Each book has its own twist to it. You can never expect what's happening next because it is so bizaar. You might also want to check out Lemony Snicket's Unauthorized Autobiography to understand the story a little bit better. Also, fading from my original subject, each time I pictured Count Olaf as a real person, I pictured Jim Carrey. His potrail (if that's how you spell it) of Count Olaf should be magnificent.

i love these books, they are so good! i can not wait to see the movie!

I've read all the Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate events books (well at least all the ones that are out) they are really good and I reccomend them to anyone their very entertaining! Before seeing this movie I recommend that you read the first 3 books (at least) because that's what this movie covers. There will be 13 books in all but as of now there are only 10.

Posted by: Alia at June 9, 2004 02:58 PM

I love the books! I'm 14, and even though they're short, the plots are awesome, and they make you really feel something. Jim Carrey will be cool. The poor Baudelaires suffer so much! I don't think they're dark; I guess it depends on how you look at them. The movie should be good!

Posted by: Guinevere at June 14, 2004 11:01 AM

I think that the Series Of Unfortunate Events are Plot-Twisting,Humorous,And gut wrenching at times but the Baudelaires always make the best of things and Lemony Snicket puts a dry wit spin on the situation at hand. But Count Olaf is twisted and weird and i imagined some one like Jim Carrey and his odd way of doing things as being him.

as an unofficial member of the VFD, i suggest reading the books in order to obtain the information needed to know of the schism as much as Mr. Snicket is willing to lead us on with....and quite hopefully Jude Law will portray him in all his loveliness...and of course who else could be as arrogant and egotistical to play Count Olaf aka Al Funcoot

Posted by: J.Asp at June 25, 2004 01:45 AM

Thease are the best books I've ever read! They will turn into awsome movies for sure!

Posted by: shannyn at June 26, 2004 10:49 PM

oh my god, you people havent read these?!?!
HA!! they are so awesome. they are satires (dark comedies) they are so wonderful. they are childrens books but i am 15 and i am so unbelievably obsessed with them. i cant believe you hadnt heard of them!!!

Posted by: cassi at June 29, 2004 08:10 PM

Well, to quote the robust Igon Spengler in 1984's smash hit: "Ghostbusters":

"Print is dead."

That excuse works for me.
have fun... later!

Posted by: Day-vuhl at June 29, 2004 08:16 PM

These books are so different from the every day childrens book that they suck you right in. If you havent read the books do it before you see the movie!

Posted by: kate at July 13, 2004 11:56 PM

I JUST LOOOOVE Jim Carrey(more on him in next paragraph) and the books!! The books are about three orphans ( Violet, Klaus, and Sunny )who's parents left behind an enormous pile of riches. Well in book one (The Bad Beginning)the oprpans get adopted by Count Olaf (CARREY),but all he cares about is getting their fortune. In each book the orpans get away from Olaf, get new guardians, but he comes back in disguise (they know but their new guardians don't). THEY ARE PRETTY SERIOUS BOOKS BUT HAVE SOME FUNNY TWISTS.

Jim Carrey is my Idol. He has been in a lot of Comedies such as Liar, Liar, The Truman Show, Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, and Ace Ventura. But He has been in Drmas too: The Majestic, and Man on the Moon. He is really funny and he is from Canada where he started acting in Comedy clubs as a teen. Also he was on the show IN Living Color for a few seasons.

Thats all I know Folks, but I really, really, really, recomend reading the children's books before seeing the show(s).

I LOVE the books, I've read em all and I've read the Unauthorized Autobiography 4 times! The new book comes out on Sep 21, and I can't wait. (for more info go to Lemony Snickey.com in the books section of the site"

The movies look a little too cooky if you ask me, They look sort of like kiddie movies, but as you said, you can't tell a lot in 1 min

Posted by: adafoo at September 11, 2004 08:10 PM

My son's reading the Series - and so am I! They're the best! Snicket's style of writing is very good. He introduces new words & concepts and then says, "which here means..." and then he explains it, often humourously. I particularly like the part where you read a page, turn to the next page and read the same words again (because he is explaining deja-vu!) We can't wait for Book 11 to land on our doormat from Amazon! Hope the film does the books justice. Trailer looks good.

The Series of unfotunate are one of my favorists books if you havent read it yet you should read it before the movie comes out.The first book is very excting and very intertaining.YOU BETTER READ IT OR ELSE.

Posted by: mvx at December 12, 2004 05:03 PM

I think the movie will be great. Jim Carry is a great actor, but think, what if Christopher Loyd played the part? He does have the better looks for it. Just saying.

Posted by: Flash at December 13, 2004 04:55 PM

I just saw the movie I have got to tell you it was missing alot of information. I'm now reading the 5th (since I am only ten and started reading it about 2 weeks befor right now) and I am really dissapointed about the movie so do not waste your money and I dont mean to be jugemental but aunt Josephine gets flirty.

Posted by: js at December 22, 2004 04:29 AM

They've got the characters all wrong! Klaus is suposed to shorter than violet, not taller. also, this is not a bad thing, but sunny is wayyy to cute to bite anyone, i think she has more than 4 teeth anyway!

Posted by: yvette at January 2, 2005 11:07 PM

This script does not give me any information that I need to know about the movie. I think that you all should do a better job at typing the scripts

Posted by: Irene Davis at January 5, 2005 10:08 AM

the characters didnt look the way I imagine them but hey they look much better then the way I did imagine them so the character part went out good, n everything else was really good so I give the movie 10 stars and 2 thumbs up

Posted by: u know nothing at January 10, 2005 08:29 PM

i think that the movie was entertaining and jim carey was funny, but it wasn't nearly as good as the books. They made it seem happier than it really is!!

also, it should be way more mysterious!!!!

Posted by: dani at January 21, 2005 04:38 AM

i've read all da books!!! they are excellent, i loved them all!! the movie did nothing for the books, didn't have any mystery to it and da story was different, but was entertaining anyway!!

the characters were really good, but i didnt expect sunny to look like that!!
