Most successful Actresses at the Box office

I found this little statistic to be EXTREMELY surprising. Really. When you look at all the great actresses in Hollywood, who do you think brings in the most money at the box office per film? Do you think Julia Roberts? You'd be wrong. Roberts brings in a respectable $76.9 million per film, but that's only good enough for 7th place on our list. How about Nicole Kidman? Well, she only makes an average of $46.7 million per film which puts her at 26th. So here it is, the top 5 Box Office draws per film:

#5. Catherine Zeta-Jones - $78.5 million per film
#4. Téa Leoni - $80.4 million per film
#3. Shannon Elizabeth - $81.5 million per film
#2. Carrie Fisher - $84.1 million per film

And the #1 per film box office money making actress of all time is…

Natalie Portman - with a stunning $161 million per film (almost as much as #2 and #3 put together. Wow!)

Other notables on this interesting list are:

#10. Tia Carrere - $63.7 million per fillm
#15. Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) - $59.6 million per film
#72. Angelina Jolie - $29.4 million per film
#74. Winona Ryder - $28.7 million per film
#77. Susan Sarandon - $28.2 million per film

Comments

Think Natalie Portman is more the films she has been in rather than her acting. Being in the Star Wars obviously helps. Im sure every actor in them films would have great $ per film ratios.
Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman probably draw crowds to see them as much as to see the film. If Portman wasnt in Star Wars it would still gross the same.

Oh yeah David, I totally agree. Although, Portman is a damn fine actress in her own right. But seriously, look at the others in the top 5. Hehe. I just thought it was an interesting statistic.

I wonder how much LOTR has helped Liv Tyler's average. She's been in a ton of low budget artsy stuff though that didn't do so hot.

Liv Tyler came in at #16 with $54.1 million per film. Man, she must have had some REALLY low money making flicks.

Dont think ive actually seen many of Portmans films, part from the first star wars. It is quiet a weird top five. Tea Leoni, how did she get there?

I was trying to figure that out as well David. The only 2 movies that popped out in my mind was Deep Impact and Bad Boys.
Then I found out she was in JP3 as well. So look at the totals for just those three: BB got 65 mill; DI got 140 mill and JP3 got 160 mill. Big bucks and she hasn't done that many more movies.
And then she married David Duchovny and broke my heart. Boo-urns!

I cant believe Jurrasic Park 3 took so much! I didnt bother with any of them after the first one. I dont even remember JP3 being on at the cinema in Britain. I thought it went straight to video! John Campea, your top 10 list and your comments about De Niro and Pacino being over rated certainly stirred up a hornets nest (I totally disagree with you and commeneted as much by the way), but was wondering what the equivillent top 10 for highest grossing males ever would be. Bet Most of them would be Star Wars or Lord of the rings actors!

I guess there's some minimum amount of movies they have to be in before making the list, if not Emma Watson from the Harry Potter movies would have an average over 250 million.

Was you going to do that male list before I sent in my comment? If not, can I have a job, or at least get a bit of credit. What about a list showing the higest grossing animals?

I was just looking for a list of top actors based on gross per film and ran into this. I saw Samuel L Jackson on Letterman the other night and he claimed to have recently climbed to number 1 in total gross of films he'd been in, passing Harrison Ford. I was wondering how accurate that was.
