Oscars – Best Actress has fierce competition… or does it?

If the bookmakers like Unibet are to be believed then all bets are off for the Academy Award for Best Actress, because Cate Blanchett is set to win it with her eyes closed.
Her performance as the fallen neurotic Manhattan Socialite has plunged her ahead of the pecking order, and she is as short as 1/16 to follow up on her Golden Globes success when she walked away with the Best Actress Award; an award she can’t remember winning because she had consumed rather a lot of the same stuff her character did in the Woody Allen movie. This is the sixth time that Blanchett has been nominated for an Academy Award (third for Best Actress) and she picked up the Best Supporting Actress award in 2004 for her performance as Katharine Hepburn in the Martin Scorsese movie The Aviator.
If you like your odds to be a little longer then there is nothing to prize apart Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock who both nestle in nicely at 12/1.
Adams picked up a Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy category, for her role as Sydney Prosser in the hit American Hustle, and is probably a better bet than Bullock, despite her sterling individualism in the tense space flick Gravity.
If you like your odds even longer then pulling up the rear are two of the Academy Awards stalwarts Judi Dench (33/1) and Meryl Streep (50/1).
