Fantastic Four reboot is not based on any comics

In a recent interview, Kate Mara (set to play Sue Storm) stated that she was not a fan of comic books and did not read any prior to filming the Fantastic Four reboot. The most surprising thing about that statement is that Director Josh Trank is to blame. Trank asked all cast members to not read any comic books with the intentions of creating his own inception of the Fantastic Four which will NOT be based on any of the comics. Take a look at the interview below.
While Josh Trank has done well with superhero films (Chronicle), I think this is disrespectful to the creators of the Fantastic Four franchise. The film may be great and I will even admit it is great if that’s the case, but to completely omit ties to the original is just a way of capitalizing on the success of a name but not citing the source. He has been an avid fan of both the theater and cinema since an early age and his passion for both has been continually growing ever since. When dissecting a film, he focuses on all elements of film-making including some fan/cult factors. He believes that character development is the foundation of a good film and usually starts his analysis of a film from there moving forward.
