Narco Cultura: A pretty sick documentary

— Posted by Andrea Lestrange

For all of the stereotypes, the misconceptions, the representations of the drug and gang world in Mexico, Narco Cultura sets that straight by inviting viewers into a dangerous world and growing phenomenon, told by the people who live this disturbing but glorified lifestyle. Israeli documentary filmmaker and photographer Shaul Schwarz creates this insightful and interesting documentary. Before releasing this film, Schwarz released a series of breathtaking photographs named Narco Culture, to whet our appetites.

To a growing number of Mexicans and Latinos in the Americas, narco traffickers have become iconic outlaws and the new models of fame and success. They represent a pathway out of the ghetto - a new form of the American Dream, fueled by the war on drugs. NARCO CULTURA looks at this explosive phenomenon from within; cycles of addiction to money, drugs and violence that are rapidly gaining strength on both sides of the US/Mexican border.

I love to write about different types of film - from blockbusters, to indies, and documentaries. I enjoy exploring and discussing different themes and angles, with a light-hearted edge to keep things fun. I am based in London, and currently looking to pursue a career in the film industry.
