Die Hard 6 in the works (unsurprisingly)
— Posted by Elliot Hopper
Yes! YES!! YES!!! Die Hard 6 has been confirmed in the works and the title for the next film (tentatively) is “Die Hardest“.
Actually I’m really not that excited, as this film was speculated for some time, since Live Free Die Hard (2007) and even more so confirmed after A Good Day to Die Hard (2013), which came out earlier this year. Actually thinking back on it now, I’m surprised A Good Day to Die Hard came out this year, I thought it was last year - but really that’s how forgettable the film was. If you didn’t read my thoughts on that film already, check that out here. I go over the franchise in general as well (and ramble my love and distaste).
Total Film got the scoop and details from the news of it, is as follows:
I tried to Google Ben Trebilcook, it came up empty as such I don’t know much about this screenwriter, other what Total Film also said “Trebilcook is currently working on Knockout, a videogame-themed actioner set to star real-life martial arts stars.” And even from that, the concept of that film sounds like Act of Valor, it’s all just leaving me confused. Also the quote from Trebilcook himself sounds like they might even open end the franchise further, for dare I say even more Die Hard. I’m still trying to let that thought sink in, I don’t think I can.
He quotes as saying ‘it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise’, which came out in 2006. What made that final sequel to Rocky so good I thought was well… it was actually the very last movie, it had things like closure, and played to a nice relevancy with the soft resurgence of boxing (at the time). It even used an HBO-esque presentation of the final fight, less Hollywood, more realistic. Which was also very nice. It also had a very low budget. So if he’s quoting the sensation of the film overall, I just don’t know how you send off ‘a wrong place at the wrong time LAPD/NYPD cop, who’s probably going to be on vacation, everyday man’ in such a way he’ll die hardest. A cooler title would’ve been “Old Habits Die Hard”, I didn’t come up with that idea though, I stole it from commenter ‘deanmorris’ over on Total Film, so yeah… Sound off on your thoughts below!
