Trailer: Blackthorn

Sam Shepard takes up the reins as the notorious Butch Cassidy in Magnolia Pictures Blackthorn.
Directed by Mateo Gil starring Eduardo Noriega, Stephen Rea and Sam Shepard.

Synopsis:

It’s been said (but unsubstantiated) that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were killed in a standoff with the Bolivian military in 1908. In BLACKTHORN, Cassidy (Shepard) survived, and is quietly living out his years under the name James Blackthorn in a secluded Bolivian village. Tired of his long exile from the US and hoping to see his family again before he dies, Cassidy sets out on the long journey home. But when an unexpected encounter with an ambitious young criminal (Eduardo Noriega) derails his plans, he is thrust into one last adventure, the likes of which he hasn’t experienced since his glory days with the Sundance Kid.

    Nice.. i want to see..

I agree, it looks like a pretty good Western. But wouldn’t it have been less derivative if he were someone like Butch Cassidy, instead of actually him? It would make for an interesting mythos that we could slowly discover through the legend that everyone keeps talking about. Might go see it.

I agree. That would’ve made for an even more interesting piece of cinematic art.

I agree that the movie didn’t need a sequel. From this trailer, though, I think Blackthorn looks promising and those landscapes reminded me of John Ford movies.

I’ll be honest, it does look decent. But how can you make a sequel to a movie like that, I really thought that there were some movies that were too sacred to be touched.

I don’t think it is an actual sequel. There have been many Butch and Sundance movies and think this is just adding to the mythology.
