Warner Brothers has released a press statement explaining that Nathan Fillion will be the voice of Green Lantern in an upcoming release. No, not like that, the live action job is still reserved for Mr. Ryan Reynolds. Instead, he will be doing voice work for the upcoming DC animated movie “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”.

BURBANK, CA, (February 8, 2011) – Primetime television stars Nathan Fillion (Castle) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) lead a diverse array of performers as the voices behind Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Building up to the release of the highly anticipated live action film, Green Lantern, in theatres June 17, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights arrives on Blu-Ray™, DVD, On Demand and for Download June 7 from Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation.

DC’s animated movies have, seemingly, been a testing ground for potential live action films in the past and have been nothing short of excellent. I’ve watched every release and believe that these movies are a comic book fans’ fantasy come true. They’re usually a more mature, animated, take on some of these beloved properties and they stick closer to the source material than we’re used to seeing with most adaptations.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this role is a one shot deal as the DC animated movies have a habit of switching up the voice actors associated with major roles. I’m really interested in hearing Fillion’s approach to our green slingin hero since he’s such an internet favorite for so many roles. Green Lantern is a little different than most DC animated heroes that are featured in these movies as Hal Jordan wasn’t the Green Lantern used in the DC Animated Universe’s Justice League cartoons. This could be an opportunity to find a recurring voice actor to join the likes of Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy. The role was previously filled by Chris Meloni, (Law and Order), in GL’s first animated movie ‘First Flight’.
