Steve Kloves re-writing Akira

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

According to AICN it seems that Academy Award nominated writer Steve Kloves is giving the script to Akira his personal touch to prepare it for production for today’s audience.

Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has hired Harry Potter adapter Steve Kloves to pen a new draft of the script for the Albert Hughes directed adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira.
Variety notes that the latest version of the script was by Albert Torres, with earlier drafts from Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and Gary Whitta.

He may not have the most recognizable name, but he does have a highly recognizable resume as he’s been credited with writing every Harry Potter film, with the exception of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, and he’s also got some new Amazing Spider-Man movie on top with yellow highlights.

I like that there is new news about this movie as it seems that they are finally getting serious about making this movie a reality. I just hope that this means that the movie will lose any of its dark edge that’s helped make it a cult favorite.

I don’t want to be that guy, but unless he has a genuine understanding of the anime, I don’t see this film having any justice whatsoever.
