Ridley Scott confirmed for another Blade Runner

Set in Los Angeles in the year 2019 Blade Runner’s universe is still impressive to behold, allthough seeing it today and imagining this could be the world in 2019 doesn’t have the same effect as it did back in the 80’s.

When the story surfaced earlier this year that Alcon had aquired the rights to prequels and sequels, I was relieved to read they could not remake the original, much like Star War’s this is a property that I do not want to see remade.

Alcon Entertainment confirmed Thursday that Scott’s attached, five months after it secured film, TV and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the 1982 future-noir thriller starring Harrison Ford.

Scott will produce along with Alcon toppers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Bud and Cynthia Yorkin will also produce.

If you are interested you may read the full press release over at Deadline.

With Ridley Scott actually attached to direct I can only pray they find someone good enough to pen the script. Prequel or sequel… for my money I would like to see a sequel, set far enough in the future for me to once again believe its a possibility. As much as I do enjoy Harrison Ford, let’s not drag him back to this franchise.

Do they really need to make another one? This is one of those one of a kind films. They should leave it that way.

No Ford in this please. It would destroy the ‘is he or is he not a replicant’ ambiguity to have an old him turn up.

Anyone remember that Kurt Russell movie that was supposed to be in the sae universe?

I don’t know what to think about this. I’m kind of excited and yet doubtful that it could ever live up to my expectations!

I agree with you. They should make a sequel without Harrison Ford. Maybe Ford could do a cameo or something like that, but he shouldn’t reprise his original role. As for the writer, isn’t the person who wrote the first movie alive? Couldn’t they do it again?

I can almost guarantee Hampton Fancher is still alive, and certainly David Webb Peoples is - after Blade Runner he went on to write Unforgiven, for which he got the Oscar. Unfortunately though the author of the source material for the movie died the year of its release

Well, even without the author, those guys should team up. I think they’d do a good job yet again if they reunited.

Cameo, I can live with that
