R.I.P. Dwayne McDuffie

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

You may not know the name, but you do know his work. Dwayne McDuffie was the writer of the latest DC Animated Movie All-Star Superman as well as numerous animated shows including Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans, Static Shock, and Ben 10.

CBR News has learned that comic writer, animation producer and respected industry veteran Dwayne McDuffie passed away. The cause of death and specific details are unknown at this time.

A glance over to his wiki page states the following:

On February 22, 2011, Comic Book Resources reported that Dwayne McDuffie had died from complications due to a surgical procedure performed on the night before his death.

It’s been stated before that Dwayne had a personal goal to ensure that people of color weren’t stereotyped in comics and can’t help but appreciate the evident input he had with the direction with a lot of the characters he was able to oversee. I give him indirect credit for me becoming a fan of John Stewart, as he was the Green Lantern of choice for the Justice League cartoon rather than series favorite Hal Jordan.

Dwayne has had an impeccable career as a writer and his involvement and input in comics and animation will be sorely missed by fans of his work all across the world. Feel free to share any “I love(d) Dwayne McDuffie” notes in the comments below.

I loved thios guys work. When I was a Kid I hated DC because I felt that they did not respect the reader. He was the main reason I looked at anything DC as an adult. Watched a lot of his work with my kids.

    Thanks Dwayne.

Dwayne McDuffie was a great writer, I always thought that D.C. comics had Marvel in a stranglehold when it came to animated movies. And that was largely because of the good writing. Rest in Peace McDuffie, I will always appreciate your contributions to animated movies, writing, and fair depictions of African Americans.

I know of him from comics and animation. I one of those guys who reads the stay for the credits. So it’s sad to see such a great talent pass at such a young age. RIP…you’ll be missed.
