Lenny Kravitz is Cinna in The Hunger Games

— Posted by Rodney

The Hunger Games is not done its reaping.. I mean casting yet. Katniss Everdeen’s personal stylist Cinna has been cast and will be played by musician Lenny Kravitz.

MovieWeb quotes:

“When I saw Lenny’s work in Precious, I was just knocked out,” director Gary Ross said. “It was quiet and strong and understated and open-hearted: all qualities which define this character.”

Most of the other casting makes sense to me, but this feels a bit awkward.

Maybe its how I saw the character of Cinna in my head. The only “normal looking” person Katniss had met from the captial did have short dark neat hair and dressed very conservatively.

Maybe I just have to see him in the role, but his on stage persona and groovy cool attitude don’t feel like Cinna to me. I don’t really consider Lenny Kravitz to be an actor (just one of those musicians trying to make the leap), so I don’t expect much different from his own personality here.

I am hoping I am wrong after so much of the cast has so far been appealing to me.

I wonder if he will contribute to the soundtrack?

Everyone seems to be harpooning this choice, but I like it. Cinnna seems to be a very clever, courageous character who plays things close to the chest, I can see Kravitz being those things.

Can’t say I like this casting decision, way too flamboyant for Cinna…time will tell. I could certainly see him as one of the other two assistants though…
