Jonathan Demme adapting King’s 11/22/63

King is definately no stranger to having his work adapted into the small or big screen, his next novel 11/22/63 has already been optioned by none other than Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia). Demme is to direct, write and produce the adaptation. The project does currently not have a distrubutor but Demme is aiming to start filming in 2012.

Book follows Jake Epping, a 35-year-old high school English teacher from Maine who travels back in time to try to prevent President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

This may be an interesting take on a historical event that has already been covered in tv and movies, King’s work have proven to make for great movies Shawshank, Green mile, Stand by me… need I go on? With the book hitting shelves on November 8th I might have to go pick it up.

I think Leonardo DiCaprio would be great in the lead role. The book was great. I personally do not believe King is losing anything.

PLEASE if you are connected to making the movie-consider using Frank Anicetti’s ..Kennebec’s Fruit Co.-THE MOXIE store (Moxie Capital of the World) in Lisbon Falls, ME 04252-Phone 207-353-8173 . Frank would just adore having the filming done there…The store is mentioned in 11-22-63 -the store began in 1914 and hasn’t changed too much over the years! and be sure to get some Moxie neckties for the crew!

As a long time Stephen King fan I feel his stories are becoming more and more derivative as he continues to go back to the same well of ideas, again and again. This sounds slightly like a variation on The Dead Zone to me. Before anyone immediately jumps down my throat about that statement I understand that the two premises of the books are completely different. However, when you read a synopsis of an author’s forthcoming book, I don’t feel that ANY of their previous work should jump to mind at all unless it’s part of a series.

I don’t know, I just think Mr. King’s running out of gas creatively.

I’m not a huge Stephen King fan, so I haven’t read all of his books to know that he may be running out of steam, however, I have stood in Dealey Plaza near the Texas School Book Depository contemplating that day and what really happened. With recent news that Jackie Kennedy believed Lyndon Johnson was behind the assassination I would say that this book has perfect timing. I will definately check it out.
