Donnie Yen offered a role in The Expendables 2

A while back we put up a post about cast rumours for The Expendables 2, both myself and reader “Mac” wanted to add Donnie Yen whos stock is way up in Hong Kong as of the Ip Man films.

Collider reports:

The latest talk should excite martial arts geeks, as Twitch hears producer Avi Lerner offered Yen a “tailor-made” role in The Expendables 2. As of this writing, the offer is still on table. A spokesperson says Yen is considering a number of projects, and will wait to see the script before he decides.

If you haven’t seen Donnie Yen in Ip Man do yourself a favour and check it out. Watching this guy display his ass-kicking-wushu skills is nothing short of jaw dropping.

This is great news, Donnie Yen is fantastic in everything he does. I especially love his fight against Sammo Hung in Ip Man 2. Sammo Hung is another amazing legend in the martial arts world. Want to see something great from him? Check out the Magnificent Butcher. It’s really awesome.

SPL, Flashpoint, Dragon Tiger Gate, IP Man 2, all great DY movies. This guy is the best thing going. Its a shame he is pushing 50 he is so hot right now. I just love his stuff and hope he takes this role.

Donnie Yen is kind of huge in China, and although he has a big following in America, i still feel like he hasn’t gotten to the same level as say a Jackie Chan or Jet Li just yet. If he takes this film, it might just push him over the top for American audiences.

This would be a great bit of casting. To see him in a contemporary setting watch SPL (Killzone). I loved Iron Monkey and Once Upon a Time In China 2, and of course Ip Man, great to see recognition of this guy internationally.
