Bruce Campbell gives ‘Evil Dead’ remake his blessing

— Posted by Lars

Like most I dont care much for remakes but I cant deny that the Evil Dead remake gets me pretty pumped up!

During a panel at the Wizard World Chicago Comic Convention, Bruce Campbell had positive things to say about the upcoming ‘Evil Dead’ remake.

“We will be heavily involved in it. Sam Raimi hand-picked Fede Alvarez to direct it… It’s not like we’re just tossing this thing out and farting out a sequel. It’ll be kind of a hand-made movie with a young filmmaker who is more experienced than we were when we made the first one, who will be casting more experienced actors than we had, so I don’t see how it could be any worse.”

Add to that writer Diablo Cody (Juno) and a cameo from Bruce Campbell himself and I think we are in for a ride.

Maybe if the movie is successfull enough they will go on and remake Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, I for one would LOVE a remake of Army of Darkness!

They had me at “a cameo from Bruce Campbell”, what about you guys? Do you share my optimism or is it hands off the classics?

Hail to the king, baby!

  1. The trailer for the new Evil Dead looks pretty good. That being said I hope to god they stop with just remaking the one movie. You cannot remake Army of Darkness. Campbell’s corny awesomeness MADE Army of Darkness what it is today. Any remake without him would be just plain blasphemy. It would be like making a Rambo movie without Stalone.

  2. They’d damn well better set it in the 1970s.

I’d like to see this remake series pick up somewhere after Army of Darkness. We’ve seen Ash fight deadites in the woods, twice. We’ve seen him fight them in the middle ages. I’d like to see him duking it out in an urban setting against whole hordes of them.

Also I have the audacity to dream of a live action film of Freddy vs Jason vs Ash.

  3. Wow, I was not aware of the preparation going into making this a proper remake. I believe I am so stale of remakes because of how trashy they are. They are just marketing of a pre established audience, cheap. but this looks great! thanks!

  4. I would love to see a remake! Netphlicks.com discovery page got me into the whole Evil Dead movies, imagine if I never saw them 0.0

  5. Well, lets be honest, Evil Dead II was just a weird remake of Evil Dead, although i’m usually loath about remakes, that’s only because of all these remakes or reboots of stuff that is fairly RECENT. For movies of this age, i’m all for it.

    • I’m in the camp that insists EDII is a sequel. Raimi and company consider it a sequel and that’s good enough for me. The opening to EDII is supposed to be a recap of Evil Dead but due to legal issues, time , and money, the entire recap needed to be filmed again. Consistency isn’t something the Evil Dead trilogy is know for. ;-)
