‘The Amazing Spider-Man’: July 3, 2012

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

Columbia pictures has finally announced that the Marc Webb helmed Spider-Man movie finally has an official title and release date.

Coming Soon reports:

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

While they were busy dishing out the official title they were also kind enough to release an official picture of Andrew Garfield, (presumably), in the full Spider-Man costume with mask.

We get a good feel for the changes made to the costume as it seems to be a clear amalgamation of the classic Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099.There’s still a lot that I don’t like about the costume but I do like the pose that’s being used as it’s classic spidey imagery. Even though I’m not thrilled with the design I’m still looking forward to a trailer, and the full film release to help squash any reservations that I still have with this movie.

hate the suit!I’ve seen downhill ski suits that look better. The back of the suit really rots! like its half finished.Maybe it is and we’re only seeing pre-production shots.(wishful thinking) I’m not crazy about Garfield as Peter Parker either.Hopefully the story and characterization make up for any anal expectations on my part.

I think this is a really bad idea for them to make this movie over, because Tobey Maguire did such a good job as playing peter parker.

Why go the whole hog and mess with the costume from the comics?? they could have just gone with a different shape from the previous movies for the eye-lenses and it would have been really different. different artists and different titles have different spidey white eyes. Raimi movies= triangular eyes / comic books= well, comic-book like. big eyes like from Ultimate Spidey would have totally rocked!!

I’m getting more and more excited about this movie. Personally, I thought Maguire was a terrible Spider-man. Garfield seems to have the right personality and look for the web head. Plus Zach Webb has proven that he knows how relationships work on film, and Spider-man is all about relationships between characters (plus his name is Webb, so he’s perfect for it).

I’ll second that! When you’re right, you’re right.

Maybe the costume will change as the character develops, but it looks good so far. Just can’t take to Garfield though, maybe a teaser trailer at least could dispel this slight worry.

Other than that, I look forward to seeing the villains.
