Anne Hathaway fans rejoice as it has recently been announced that she’s been cast in the Les Miserables movie alongside Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.

Hathaway will play Fantine, Cossette’s mother. Jean Valjean (Jackman) meets Fantine and takes in Cossett as his own daughter in the musical.

Crowe plays Inspector Javert in the film, which is based both on the musical stage play and the novel by Victor Hugo.

Tom Hooper (THE KING’S SPEECH) is directing the film from a script by William Nicholson (GLADIATOR). The film is already set for a December 7th, 2012 release date.

Again, great news for fans of the actress as she’s joining a really great cast with a great director. I’ve never seen the musical before but I’d like the opportunity to see it as a film if it gives another opportunity to flex her musical talents. For those who don’t know, she can actually carry a tune pretty well.

So this will be a musical unlike the Liam Neeson version? I love that 1998 film, it had the vest cinematography.
