Dwayne Johnson might be Goliath

There’s a movie being produced re-telling the tale of David and Goliath. No? Not catching your attention? Consider the fact that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is being considered for the role of Goliath and the surprisingly capable Taylor Lautner is being considered for the role of David.

It seems casting is getting under way, with Dwayne Johnson in talks to portray the title character, and Taylor Lautner circling the David role.

Goliath will be a family adventure based on the classic David and Goliath biblical tale with modern themes. The story centers on David, a young shepard who tries to save the lives of his fellow villagers when the massive Goliath attacks, seeking the legendary king of the Israelites.

While Dwayne Johnson is in negotiations to portray Goliath, an offer has been made to Taylor Lautner for David, though it isn’t known if he will accept the role yet.

I don’t think there’s anything I could single out to explain my interest in this type of movie, but the combination of all this news and casting has raised my eyebrow. Lautner surprised the hell out of me with the trailer for his upcoming action flick “Abduction” and exposed me to the fact that he’s actually a quite capable martial artist. Somehow the idea of him taking on the Rock 1 on 1 paints a “main event” picture in my head that can’t be ignored. I’ll keep an eye on developments and will be sure to share any other interesting developments.

i love almost everything the rock is in, and it seems as though he’s trying to bring back that badassness about himself when we first found out he was making movies, before he did those stupid kid movies… Which i much appreciate!

    but umm… Taylor Lautner… no…

THIS MOVIE is going to SUCK HARD….the script is NOT real at all it is totally fiction. Every Jew and Christian will be appalled.

I wold say its treating the bible like a myth but its NOT based on the BIBLE even 1%.

I’m not sure how “small” Taylor is, but The Rock being Goliath would be a good way to go. It’s gotta be believable that Goliath is a bully, and DJ can definitely pull that arrogance off. I’ve never watched TL in anything since that dozen kids movie with Steve Martin, so I can’t say if I’m for or against him being David. Personally, depending on the style of story they’re going for, I’d really rather see someone like Joseph Gordin Levitt as David. That’s guy’s an awesome actor.

    Its just a cash grab.

Am I the only one who remembers the horrible CGI Rock in The Mummy Returns? Do we really want a larger than life CGI Rock again?

    • Shinpachi says:

i was thinking the exact same thing, even if cgi has improved, to do a full scale body that would be on screen throughout the movie bad call.

I wonder if they are going to actually try to make Johnson a giant (with CGI or some other camera trick) or will he just be “giant” as in he will be his normal size which is larger than Lautner. I wonder this because of the “with modern themes” part. Will this be an actual retelling or is this going to be something like Johnson and Lautner work at the same job and Johnson is a bully that harasses Lautner and Lautner has to stand up to him.
