Chan-wook Park’s US Debut: Stoked for Stoker!

Chan-wook Park… writer… director… dare I say, genius? If the name rings a bell, but you just can’t place him, chances are you’re trying to recall Oldboy.

Stoker

Written by Wentworth Miller — the raspy voiced star of Prison Break — and also appearing as Chris Redfield in the travesty that is Resident Evil: Afterlife. As much as his acting resume makes me weep over the prospect of him penning a Chan-wook Park movie, lets hope his writing far exceeds his acting.

The cast — what can I say. It looks real good. Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Goode (Watchmen).

Stoker is set to follow a young girl (Mia). In the midst of mourning her recently departed father, she is faced with dealing with her strange uncle (Goode) who mysteriously shows up to meet the family. Not a ton to go on but it sure is a strange enough premise to pique my interest.

And that brings us back to the man this article is really about — Chan-wook Park. His “Vengeance Trilogy” is a visually stunning and often disturbing journey within the realm of personal retribution. If you haven’t gotten around to seeing any of the movies in the trilogy, I highly recommend you give them a shot.
