RZA joins G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes

The RZA is busy working on his directorial debut with Russell Crowe with input from Quentin Tarantino. Sounds good. RZA is also busy working on his upcoming role in the sequel to 2009′s G.I. Joe movie starring Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans. Wait, WHAT?!

Source: THR

Cotrona will play Flint, a Joe soldier best known in the toyline and 1980s comics for his shotgun and beret.

RZA will play a martial arts master named the Blind Master who in the past trained Joe commandoes Snake-Eyes and Jinx (Yung).

Now this is some really unexpected casting news. RZA may be one of the few exceptions to the “musicians become actors” rule because the guy admittedly is a huge fan of film and Padwan’d himself to Tarantino for like the past 10 yrs. I’m a admittedly surprised that they’ve chosen RZA for a role, but I’m somewhat excited about the news of D.J. Crotona joining the cast. I enjoyed the guy well enough on TV’s Detroit 187 and I’m looking forward to finding out if he has the needed range to maintain a career in Hollywood. Not really ‘radar’ breaking news, but it is interesting that they’re painting a clearer picture of the direction of the movie with the cast that they’re assembling which includes actor Stephen Martines as Cross-Country and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson cast as Roadblock.

So RZA is a big film fan. That *must* mean he can act!
    Hahahahahaha

    His character trained Snake Eyes?!
    Hahahahahaha

and then, it hit me like, *right between the eyes*!

    This IS GI JOE 2!
Where you don’t need to check your brain at the door; they just feel we don’t have one TO check at the door!

I’ll give RZA a shot. Im most of the films he’s been in he does a decent job. I know he enjoys classic kung fu films so I’m sure he will do his best as playing a blind martial arts instructor. I know that GI Joe did get some friction but it was a decent popcorn flick.
