Jim Carrey Set For Mr. Popper’s Penguins

— Posted by Francisco

Jim Carrey has decided what movie he will make next. Apparently, he has chosen to cozy up with some penguins. Mr. Popper’s Penguins originally had Ben Stiller in the lead part. After Stiller left, it was an open race between Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Carrey. Here’s a little bit more info about Carrey’s next project.

IGN says:

Deadline reports that Jim Carrey has signed on to play the title role in the long-gestating adaptation of the 1938 children’s book, Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Mark Waters (Mean Girls, The Spiderwick Chronicles) will direct from a screenplay by Jared Stern.

Deadline claims the “movie version takes the book into an upscale direction: a high-powered businessman suddenly inherits six penguins. As he gets acquainted with – and increasingly attached to – his winged roommates, Popper’s life quickly unravels: his swanky New York apartment is turned into a snowy winter wonderland, the deal he’s long been working on is derailed, and he almost lands in jail.”

I’m so glad Carrey won this role. Add Carrey to the story’s premise, and I’m pretty sure we’ll get a funny movie, with heart. Like I said in an earlier post, Carrey has not disappointed with these kinds of movies (See Yes Man, Bruce Almighty, and Liar Liar). I have no doubt, that with Carrey now involved, the film will deliver.

What do you guys think about Carrey and penguins? You’d watch this?
