Jim Carrey Could Go Under Cover

— Posted by Francisco

Jim Carrey’s last big screen effort came in 2008′s Yes Man (Awesome comedy!). His next film due, I Love You Phillip Morris, has been stuck in the “hollywood phantom zone” for quite some time now. It could be possible that we won’t get any Carrey films in a while. Consequently, studios have been lining up with scripts and projects for him to choose and do from. Some of these are: Larry Charles comedy Pierre Pierre, the children’s book adaptation Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and a remake of the musical Damn Yankees. Now Summit Entertainment has entered into the picture with an enticing option.

Collider reports:

According to Pajiba, the studio is recruiting Carrey for the Amy Talkington-scripted Under Cover, which centers on a recently divorced father who joins a “youthful cover band” to fund a custody battle against his ex-wife.

I love Jim Carrey; he’s one of my all-time favorite actors. I can totally see him doing this and nailing it. If done right, this could be another great comedy with a heart a la Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty and Yes Man. School of Rock comes to mind. Of all the projects he’s looking at, I think this one would be good for him. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing I Love You Phillip Morris. Whatever happened to that one?

What do you guys think? Carrey in a youth cover band? Which is your favorite Jim Carrey film?

  1. Carrey IS Funny and has a wide range of acting capabilities

My Favs: Ace Ventura (1st one) the sequel had some hilarious parts but as a whole, not as funny as the 1st time around

Dumb and Dumber (still funny today)
    CableGuy (gets better w/ age)
    Bruce Almighty (the good one)
    YesMan (pretty good)

the other stuff was fun but, wont be in my Bluray collection any time soon

    worthy mentions:
    Man on the moon
    Truman Show
    Enternal Sunshine

    • Hey, yeah, what happened to that movie? I saw previews for it… months ago… if not last year.

I guess the studio got cold feet about how audiences would respond to putting two top-draw actors in a gay pic. I mean, Ewan has played pretty explicit gay characters before… is it possible Carrey (or his agent) started to panic about the effect it could have on his core (stupid) audience?

      • Heh… just checked IMDB, and it’s been out in Kazakhstan since March. Listed as October 2010 for USA… Apparently the last country in the world to get it.
