Synopsis via Trailer Addict:
Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists. Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius’ son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle.
This trailer actually looks pretty gosh darnitt good. I really love the idea of the role reversal between master and slave. Jamie Bell is just an amazing actor I love seeing that guy in films, and Channing Tatum seems to mature with every film, I’ve had a lot of faith in him as an actor ever since I saw him in “A Guide To recognizing Your Saints” which was a phenomenal film starring Channing, Shia LeBeouf, Robert Downey Jr. and Rosario Dawson.
I’m excited to see more gems coming from these two actors and I’m also excited to see them in this film together.
Well. After that interesting reveal I feel like I’ve already seen the movie. Next!
The plot sounds a lot like Centurion…
Didn’t watch the trailer when I said that. Nevermind.
I think I’ll like this movie.
I just wish it had not shown me as much of the plot as it did. I think I would have enjoyed being surprised at the master/slave switch when it happened and also would have liked not finding out that the Roman slave was from the tribe that defeated the Roman’s father and took the legion’s Eagle standard.
I totally agree. That was a major spoiler. You need to leave that reveal and role reversal for the film, not the trailer.
Also, great choice in Jamie Bell. Terrible choice in Channing Tatum.
Agree completely. That actually pissed me off. Whoever cut that trailer should not be allowed to cut trailers anymore.
Such a fine actor…I was expecting him to pull a Step Up at any time
This looks terrible. To me it seems like a great idea, horribly produced. Channing Tatum might be the worst actor working today.
