Tarsem Singh to Direct Snow White

The classic Brothers Grimm tale of Snow White is getting a new version from Relativity Media and they have signed on Tarsem Singh to direct.

Movie Web shares:

Relativity’s Snow White will eschew the traditional story in favor of an edgier, more modern tale. After her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom, Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarves to reclaim what is rightly hers.

The details of the storyline are being kept underwraps because of possible competition with other Snow White projects: Snow White and the Huntsman at Universal and Snow White and the Seven at Disney (in the Disney version, the dwarves are Shaolin monks).

I can’t decide which variation of this classic tale I want to see more!

While the idea of White as a figurehead that inspires rebellion against her wicked step mother, I am really curious about a version that has seven Shaolin Monks instead of Dwarves.

As for Tarsem Singh, the only thing I know of that he has done is The Cell and while visually stimulating I wasn’t a fan of the movie.

Hopefully he does better with his Snow White.

Very hyped for anything Singh does. His visuals are always intoxicating. Also, cant wait to see how he handles immortals with mickey rourke

The Fall is beautifully done… not much of a story there though.

:/ Sounds basically like the recent Alice in Wonderland. Seems the new trend on updates is making them as EPIC as possible which always seems to reduce the quality of everything else important. Just visuals and an “EPIC” story.

I’m actually very excited to see this! I’d rather see Tarsems version more, personally. He’s my favorite director. I once heard that his film “War of the Gods” (now called “the immortals”) was given a competitor by remaking Clash of the titans, and trying to release their remake first, (bastards if that’s true). I didn’t go to see the remake (HA!). It seems like hes in the same situation again with the snow white movie. I think other directors are jealous of his awesomeness so they’re trying to beat him to the punch. :p he would be great for this one though! cant wait! i very much cant wait for the immortals either :)
