Superman Batman Apocalypse gets Theatrical Release

WB’s home video library of feature films that focus on their DC Comics characters have been really impressive. I have been collecting them all as they come out and haven’t been disappointed yet. (Seriously, Under the Red Hood is amazing.)

And now the upcoming release of Superman/Batman Apocalypse will get a very limited Theatrical release in NY and LA before it comes out on DVD and BluRay on Sept 28th.

ScreenCrave shares:

Superman/Batman Apocalypse will premiere on the West Coast on September 21, 2010, followed by its New York debut on September 23rd. If you’re not one of the lucky people who can get into such exclusive events, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The next week on September 28th the Superman/Batman Apocalypse movie will be available on DVD and Blu-ray.

I like that they are making the effort to release these in theaters just before its DVD and Blu releases, and I wonder if they are testing the market for future theatrical releases of these feature films.

Under the Red Hood could have had a theatrical release. It was that good.

They have had a lot of success with the direct to dvd market. I hope they don’t ever stop.

Totally agree with you Rodney, they need more films like “Under the Red Hood” with mature theatrics.

How are the Superman rights broken up? If its animated but released in theaters does it count towards the 2011 deadline?

  3. Slushie Man says:

No. Animated rights and live-action rights are two completely separate things.

  4. EJM says:

If they release them theatrically, the movies need to be longer than 65-70 minutes… push them to 90-110 and they’re winners.

Damn, it would have been nice to see it on the big screen. Oh well.

You keep mentioned Under The Red Hood.

Do I need to have been following the animated show/movies to be able to watch this?

    • ReyningDevil says:

no you don’t need to have followed the animated series or any other movie for that matter…. it’s a stand-alone movie with no connections….. though if you are a comic book fan you might enjoy it a tad better in my opinion…

That’s the beauty of how well that film was done. A tiny bit of understanding of the Batman and Robin characters is required, but after that you need NO background at all. It stands perfectly on its own despite having to clue you in on SO MUCH background information.

      Its beautiful.
