James Cameron To Produce True Lies TV Series

True Lies is headed to the TV screen. Since True Lies 2 has never materialized, it seems they are going forward with the TV adaptation of the film’s concept. James Cameron is set to produce the series.

IGN reports:

According to Deadline.com, a True Lies TV series is in the work with mega-movie director, and Lies helmer, James Cameron producing.

The series is about to be shopped around the networks with Rene Echevarria (The 4400) as the writer/showrunner. Should this series, about a husband and wife spy-team, get picked up it will mark Cameron’s official return to TV after producing the Jessica Alba series, Dark Angel.

I would’ve loved to see a True Lies 2 rather than this series. But if we ain’t getting that sequel, might as well take the series no? That’s my mood regarding this adaptation. The question now is will they make this a reboot or will they follow where the movie ended?

Do you guys want a reboot or pick up where the first film ended?

Makes me wonder a little about the thinking behind this in as far as casting and budget goes. Or will they darken it to cut down on the big explosions and set pieces of the movie. Then you have the cast issues, like finding an Arnie-esque actor for the small screen or go in a totally different direction. I’d love to see Jamie-Lee Curtis guest in this version, since she is one hot mamma………drool

Dwayne Johnson as Harry Tasker in this proposed True Lies TV series.

    mmm… mmmm… mmmmm…

“True Lies” was a very exciting movie, and now a direct sequel looks distant, at least with the same lead roles, because Arnie and Jamie Lee are now too old… and fat, of course i would love to see Eliza Dushku taking the lead of the “Family Business”, but that just don´t goin to happen.

As for a Tv Series, i think that the plot is weak for more than 2 or 3 episodes, and lately i hate Cameron for being so cocky, and i dont want him to “please me” with his creative and amazing stuff, which BTW… is possible just because the technology of others.

I think the Spy tv show thing is getting a little close to the reailty explosion of a few years back. Although im not totally convinced its a bad thing im just worried about too much of a good thing.

Chuck, burn notice, human target, Nikita, spooks, Covert Affiars, undercover something?(husband and wife spy team retired and come back into the fold) although not sure if that has aired yet. The spy genre in tv land is getting a little cluttered.

That being said Cameron at the healm it could be fun i’m just worried that he won’t bring anything new to genre.

TV Series? One thing is to remake it in a 3D movie, the other is to see a couple of series… I don’t think it will even have success

Well, I loved the movie. The series would demand a leading star who is that bigger than life presence. I just dont know how this will work out.

Did it need a sequel, I cant remember really, I remember seeing the jet prop on top of a high rise back in the day while they were filming it here.

LOVED the blowing up of the 3 mile bridge in the movie.

    Tom Arnold’s game I’m sure!

oh and Eliza Dushku was the hottie in “Jay and Silent Bob” right?
what happened to her face? Her and Rose Mcgowan got weird in the facial area IMO
