THE GENERAL IDEA

Trying to recover from a sudden break-up, Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) believes she’ll never fall in love again. But when she reluctantly joins her parents on a trip to the French Riviera, Jen happens to meet the man of her dreams, the dashing, handsome Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). Three years later, her seemingly impossible wish has come true: she and Spencer are newlyweds living the ideal suburban life—that is, until the morning after Spencer’s 30th birthday when bullets start flying. Literally. It turns out Spencer never bothered to tell Jen he was once an international super-spy, and now Jen’s perfect world has been turned upside down

The DVD/Bluray

I wasn’t a big fan of the film, but it did have some elements I did like (Selleck and O’Hara are a riot) but I already reviewed the film. This review will focus more on the extras presented in the retail release.

The special features include a full table of contents of the usual suspects. The gag reel, Deleted and Extended Scenes and a Behind the Scenes Featurette.

I hoped these would shed some more light on the film to better build an appreciation, but I was disappointed. The gag reel is maybe a minute and a half long, and really isn’t at all funny. A couple “oops” moments and a forgotten line. That’s all.

The Deleted and Extended Scenes are in separate categories, but they both prove the same point. These scenes did not need to be in the movie, and what they trimmed out was trimmed out for a reason. Sometimes seeing theses removed scenes shows you something assumed that was cut for pacing, but is interesting to see. There was nothing interesting to see here.

The Making of Featurette Killer Chemistry: Behind the Scenes with the Killers Cast and Crew was less amusing than the film itself.

And of course it has trailers for movies coming out soon, and even a convenient link to the credits. That’s handy.

Overall

If you were on the fence about buying this film because you thought the special features would give you something extra? They don’t.

If you liked the movie, its still in there in its theatrical presentation, and that’s really what you were after when you brought it up to the cashier in the first place right?
