Back To The Future II Self-Lacing Nikes May Become Reality

Back in 1989, Back To The Future II introduced two things most of us want: a hoverboard and a pair of Nike power-lacing shoes. Although we might have to wait for the hoverboard a little while longer, the power-lacing shoes are closer than you think.

JoBlo reports:

MSNBC is reporting that the popular footwear company has filed a patent for a self-lacing shoe that resembles the sneakers from BACK TO THE FUTURE II that practically everyone and their mothers wanted.

According to the patent, “the automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.”

Wow, that’s insane. How bizarre will it be if these shoes come out on 2015? That would be creepy and awesome at the same time! This is cool news.

How much do you think they will cost? How will they function - battery/power?

Awesome. I still love all 3 BTTF movies, and the shoes were very neat.

Now if only they could make the self drying jacket,….

The shoes would be cool but the prediction I’m really hoping for is the Cubs winning the World Series in 2015.

  3. Bumbledoor says:

awesome…just hope they’re not insanely high-topped like in the movie. halfway up his shin!

  4. Josh says:

has this world really gotten that lazy to the point where we cant lace up our own shoes?
