I Love You Phillip Morris gets Delayed Indefinitely

Looks like that dark comedy I Love You Phillip Morris is getting put aside and its release will be delayed with no reason stated, and no duration offered.

Collider reports:

Sorry Philip Morris, somebody really doesn’t love you. I Love You Phillip Morris, a dark comedy starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, which had its premiere way back at Sundance 2009 was scheduled to be released this month. Now, the LA Times is reporting that Consolidated Pictures Group has delayed it indefinitely.

Now my knee jerk reaction is that the studio that picked up the rights to the film have decided its “too gay” for the mainstream audience, but its more likely that they just don’t have the money.

I really like seeing Jim Carrey in comedic roles, and I like him MORE when there is a dramatic element. This looked great, and I am disappointed that its being delayed.

Check out the trailer

I hope this eventually gets released.

Indefinitely!? I don’t care the reasons, nor does it matter to me if the quality of the film is good or bad. That’s a tough word to fathom. Folks have worked their butts off on the film. They want people to see the film, the fruits of their labor. “Indefinite”. look- if they didn’t have the dough, why back the film/pick up the film? If they felt they could not make money, why bother? POINTLESS.

If folks want to bury the film, give it a limited run, short and sweet or put it on DVD or sell it to Magnolia and they’ll throw it on HDNet or something. “Indefinite”—what a waste of time and talent.

    That goes for any film.

I agree. It was to be released THIS MONTH! How could the release month come and just now do they suddenly delay it? That just reeks of ignorance to me. Well…better hope for the best.

WTF? I was expecting this to come out before the summer.

Did you see it? looked a little out there but I really like both actors involved and wanted to see their quality of work with this premise..

Maybee Focus Features will get it eventually, and like most of there movies(to me anyway)I’ll see it and at the end I’ll be like “WTF? that’s how you end it!”

  4. Mr. James says:

Too gay?! With Brokeback Mountain already breaking the boundaries for being “gay” I’m not sure why they’re shelving this one “indefinitely”.

I saw I love you Philip Morris yesterday [I live in sweden :) ]. Both Jim and Ewan make a great preformance in it. The film makes you laugh, almost cry and offers you one or two surprises. It’s definitely a film worth watching.
To bad it looks like it will be out on DVD in Europe before it hits cinemas in the U.S.

I really wanted to see this. What is this world coming to that people are still racist and homophobic? Fucking retarded.

  7. Harsh (gypsydreams101) says:

    Fuckin’ hell :-(

I was really, really looking forward to this, damn it…..I can’t get enough of Jim Carrey and McGregor’s growing on me after I finished watching Trainspotting for at least the thousandth time in a week…..

This is a sad day for cinema.

    • Hertz says:

You’d think some thing would change with Obama at power over there, but no…
Just sell the movie to a European company for goodness sake.. Europe is not afraid of a gay comedies.
Our greatest national heroes were gay..

  8. Harsh (gypsydreams101) says:

You’re right. This is Obama’s fault.

    Or Hawaii’s.

  9. Ash says:

Bummer. Big Bummer. I really wanted to see this.
