Bruckhiemer Confirms National Treasure 3

Not happy with just two National Treasure films, Bruckheimer is keeping his new favourite writers employed moving ahead with a third installment.

ScreenJunkies says:

Jerry Bruckheimer has found a kinship with writers Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro. The pair wrote his next two blockbusters, Prince of Persia and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and now he has them on the hook to write a third National Treasure film for director Jon Turteltaub.

If this gives us Nic Cage in a role that actually works for him and seeing the beauty that is Diane Kruger on screen again, I am in.

I don’t know where they are going to go with it, after the last film had pretty much a happily-ever-after kind of ending to it, but they twisted the history books twice to make a plot, so i would expect nothing less as they are drawn out of posh retirement to solve another puzzle buried in American historical myth.

Let’s hope they can keep things fresh and interesting. National Treasure 2 wasn’t exactly the best adventure flick of the year, and neither was the first. But I guess they know that people will keep coming back anyway.

Didn’t ‘2′ end with the JFK mystery being implied through that Book of Secrets (not sure about the name, but something like that). Didn’t they kind of end with a third adventure being started?

    • Jrod says:

The 2 movie actually ended with the president asking them if he got a chance to take a look at some page in the book. What is this guy talking about, they did not end the 2 movie with a happy ever after.

I also remember the second movie ending with some other secret mystery to go solve. I’m also really surprised that the 3rd one wasn’t announced sooner. Like I said they built up to a possible 3rd film but it’s been quiet for a few years now. I’m guessing either the second film didn’t do as well as they were hoping or they really didn’t know where to go with the story.

While they’re not cinematic gold or anything, I do find these movies fun mindless summer movies and while I don’t think I’ve ever re-watched either of them, I did enjoy both when I saw them in theaters, so I’ll more then likely catch this one as well.

As long as they don’t take the new story off on a tangent and deliver some extra terrestrial element then I wouldn’t mind a third adventure as they twist history to come up with some sort of story.

Dude i am all in on this. There isn’t enough stuff out there on American history, its all England and claymores and China with flying people in silk cloths. Yea we have WWII movies but i like conspiracies with the founding fathers and crap like that.

  6. Ivan says:

I don’t think there would be National Treasure 3 because sequel is never as good as the first movie. But there are some exemptions.

    • Rodney says:

Never is a strong word. There are many exceptional sequels, and to say they are “never as good”.

Also there is an irony that you assume there wouldnt be a THIRD movie because the second isn’t as good. Clearly the second was fine if they are moving ahead with a third.

Liked the 1st, the 2nd was hard to sit thru for me for some reason…….oh yeah, It blew chunks! thats why.
IMHO this could have been pretty great but the second installment was weak.

    Love Kruger and Cage though!

  8. Shot says:

The 2nd ended foreshadowing the third. It was very obvious. Presidents book. I’m gonna go with area 51

  9. Andrew says:

Cool, I’ll see it. I loved the first two National Treasure movies, I’d even go as far to say that I enjoyed National Treasure 1 over Raiders of the Lost Ark. Yeah, bite me. So, yeah I’d see National Treasure 3.

Well, after seeing the second one on DVD, I looked up what the deal was on the next one, (anyone surprised after the ending of the second one is retarded), and from what I could gather, it got delayed due to pirates 3. Also, I would like an area 51 or JFK story, but I highly doubt they would go into those. Those are more “cover-up” than lost treasure, (yes, I know the city of gold was literally covered up, but that was never claimed to be a conspiracy like 51 and jfk). They also specificly mention those two things in the book, so the surprise would be negated. Something more appropriate would be…fountain of youth maybe? Except that might be tapped in pirates 3. I just hope it’s cool. Maybe international, like the search for Excalibur or something.
