Will Smith has been taking a break since Seven Pounds but is starting to get his game face on again as he re-enters the world of acting. I am sure he is swimming in offers, but word has come down that he has narrowed his choices down to two projects.
Men in Black 3 and The City that Sailed.

Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”, “Idiocracy”) has written the screenplay for the third “Men in Black” which will find Smith’s Agent J traveling back in time to meet a younger Agent J, apparently. Tommy Lee Jones won’t be involved (I think he’s retired from this kind of movie now) and it’s previously been rumoured that his “No Country For Old Men” co-star Josh Brolin, would portray J as a younger man.
Ok, I don’t know if that is a typo, or would Agent J be meeting a previous holder of the title J? But considering that they are rumouring Brolin for the role, I would imagine he meant to type Agent K!
Josh Brolin as a younger Tommy Lee Jones? I could see it. However, it might explain why Agent K picks Officer Jason Edwards for the Men in Black program to begin with - explaining that he sees “potential” in him.
But Smith might also pursue The City that sailed
“City that Sailed” revolves around a New York street magician who is unhappily separated from his young daughter. The girl, who moves to London, finds magic candles that make her wishes comes true, with unintended consequences: The island of Manhattan separates from the continent and floats toward England, bringing her dad ever closer.
So will Smith break his self imposed dry spell with an action comedy? Or return to an emotional family drama?
Smith does both very well, so whichever he decides to do is fine by me. Both films intend to film this summer, so I think Men in Black 3 would wait for Smith, while this other project won’t wait for him.

If Men in Black 3 doesn’t have Tommy Lee Jones, then as far as I’m concerned, it’s not worth watching.

I agree as well. Jones and Smith had a chemistry that made those films work. Take either one out and its not the same. If I were Smith would go with the other film. Something fresh.
I can agree with this… only on the Will Smith side.
If Smith isnt in it, then im pissed.

The City that Sailed will be Smith’s choice. MiB3 will be terrible, and he knows it, and Will is not a stupid guy. He’ll go with something fresh! :D
I agree, his better choice would be “The City that Sailed”, MiB3 would not be a wise choice. Also MiB2 was terrible, it is one of the movies in my life that I wish I could get my 2 hours back. Movie wasn’t funny at all, hell Tommy Lee Jones looked as if he hated being in that film.
There is no reason to assume MiB3 would be bad. Any film has the potential to be good or bad.
And that with the hundreds of offers Smith had during his brief self imposed hiatus, it comes down to these two?
If he “knows” it will be so bad, then why did MiB3 make it this far on his consideration list?
Seems to me that Smith is giving serious consideration to MiB3 since out of all of them its come down to one of these two films.
I never gave the assumption that MiB3 will be a bad movie, I just feel that the second film killed the franchise which had the potential to have been great. If they decide to make the third film where the second never existed then yeah I say go for it. Also it is one Smith’s memorable characters that he has done on film at least in my opinion. I loved the animated series and I think Will does an excellent job in whatever he does. And he may deeply consider this film, who knows, maybe he has a lot of faith in this series or prefers to being Agent J and might do it out of loyalty regardless if he knows it will or will not be good. That is why I think he should do the other film rather than do MiB3, not because you think I “assume” it will be bad.
I think the idea for “City that Sailed” sounds charming, and I think Will Smith does well in dramatic roles, so I’d give it a shot.
city that sailed doesn’t sound very interesting, or i’m just not really grasping the idea one.
Mib3 sounds great, if we get to see a younger k, his training process an how he was chosen.
actually if you watch the first movie again, it is explained that k was one of the original members of MIB. that is exposed when he tells j “there were 8 (or 9) of us that night. as he explains how MIB got started.
If MiB3 is going to be about younger K and younger J then I think it might be best to not use Smith or Jones. If the focus is going to be on the younger agents you don’t want to the two guys that made the first 2 movies good (well the first was good and second was decent) in the way. Get Nick Cannon and Josh Hartnett and call it a day. The only way I would use Smith in MiB3 is MAYBE do a time skip and have the moive end with him about to start the chase of that alien that led him to meeting K in the interrogation room at the start of MiB1.
Its not about a younger J. That is presumed a typo. Agent J (Smith) will go back in time to meet K when he was a younger agent.
Oh well in that case then they would need Smith if J is supposed to go back in time. Although I have to say I like my idea of a younger J and K better…
We have seen every moment of J and K working together from the beginning of J’s career. A “younger J” would just be a cop.
Brolin fits the bill fine (I can already picture it)
Part 2 was a bad movie though.
Frank the Pug and a silly song saved that one from being just terrible.

And Will Smith is Will Smith in this, and he drives around bein’ Will Smith all the time.
Lets face it. Smith can be a fantastic actor, but when he is doing this kind of comedy action role, he is just Smith.
Nothin’ really wrong with that I guess. Man’s got to get jiggy wit it from time to time.
