UStreaming the Oscars

Tonight I am going to try something new just to see how well it goes.

I am going to do a live stream and chat of me watching the Oscars. Now this won’t be all that fascinating as it will mostly just be my ugly mug staring at the screen, but it will have a chat feature as well for people registered at UStream so that I can interact directly with chatters.

So join me over at Ustream to check out this new feature and join in The Movie Blog chat window and let me know if its something you want to see more of.

See you there starting at 8pm EST!

Even though the show was a little dissapointing I had a good time. Thanks Rodney and everyone else.

  2. Devan Price says:

Had a great time. even if we only had 9-12 people on at a time.

  3. bigsampson says:

bummer i missed it. Next year i will be there with you folks

  4. Chris says:

Ya I missed it to. I’ll have to make sure I’m on next time.

  5. James says:

i was there along with like 9 other blokes. were the fuck was everyone else?

  6. Darren J Seeley says:

I did not listen to the stream nor did I join in on any chat. I just wanted to watch the Oscars.
That said, here’s a lowdown of things I despised with a vengeance:

    1. Neil Patrick Harris. Enough said on that.

    2. The Horror tribute. Hey, look, intro’d by Twilight’s actors was bad enough. Showing clips of Edward Scissorhands? Unforgivable! ( Young Frankenstein I will always love, but seeing how that was a comedy spoofing Frankenstein, that was pushing it too. In thier places? Hey, how about Near Dark (which was directed by ‘Hurt Locker’ winning director Kathy Bigelow?) or American Werewolf In London (you know, something that WON an award back in ‘82?) or The Fly? No…show a scene from New Moon ’cause that’s a horror film :p

    3. In Memorium. At first, I was put off a little by the John Hughes tribute. Then I thought it was a wise thing. For when we got to the the In Memorium, those yahoos pulled the same dumb stuff from last year. Long, wide shots with a back screen. Four faces and names go by before a wise man decides to split screen so we get to see who people are.

    4. What is up with the nutso camera angles? The winners get up there, and almost immediately cut aways to side and wide angles, over people’s shoulders etc. Very distracting.

    5. Cutting off music numbers is one thing; cutting off mikes is another. Let folks get their due. Especially those who want to save dolphins.

Coming close: “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire”. Not the film itself or anyone connected to it, but the fact that whenever someone had to mention the film, ‘based on the Novel Push by Sapphire’ followed it. It just…annoyed me for some reason. I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe it was because no other adapted film mentioned the source material whenever that movie’s title was mentioned?

    ******
Now, for what I applaud, another top five.

    1. MoNique (supporting actress) and writer Geoffrey S. Fletcher winning for “Precious” .The best examples of people who won, were humbled and were happy to have won.

    2. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin soared with the jokes and the roasts early on. But they…hardly showed up after that. Does Oscars really need hosts anymore?

    3. A ROUND OF APPLAUSE, STANDING OVATION!!!!! No best pictures songs are performed! Not one! I wouldn’t have minded a little T Bone, but still, REJOICE! CELEBRATION!

    4. The Breakdance/popping to the best scores was odd at first, but then I was kind of getting into it. Didn’t quite go with much, but the dancing was really, really good.

    5. Ben Stiller. You know why.

Coming close: Something from last year’s Oscars that repeated itself: a actor/actress nominees salute. I loved it last year, I liked it again this year. Keep on doing it. As a result, ribbing Meryl Streep was more funny, I found out that Jeremy Renner had one of his big breaks in SWAT, and that one of the nominees skipped school. Also, just for a few minutes, Oscar winner Jeff Bridges turned back into The Dude shortly after getting onstage.

I think that was the full title for Precious.

They wanted people to know it was based on the book. I imagine they didn’t want to keep the name Push because of dakota Fanning movie. Kinda like The Last Airbender, doesn’t want to us Avatar as its title.

  7. Jussi says:

I’m fine with everything else but James Cameron being so epically snubbed of Best Director.

Hey, I agree that Hurt Locker was the Best Picture and in some sense therefore deserves Best Director as well.

But still, if the massive groundbreaking work that only Cameron could have done with Avatar doesn’t deserve Best Director… what does?

  8. Shane says:

Pretty much everything I thought would win won. Some weren’t that big of a shocker, but the show was awesome.

  9. phantoms10tigers says:

i thought the oscars were predictable, Avatar whether you love it or hate it deseverved more…

  10. Moe says:

During the “In Memoriam” section, they made three big goofs…

    1. A wide angle shot of Patrick Swayze. Why not give him a close-up like everyone else?

    2. They forgot to mention Farrah Fawcett.

    3. They also forgot to mention Bea Arthur (I know, she’s more known for television, but if they can show Micheal Jackson, they can show Bea Arthur).

  11. AARON says:

Predictable? Not by any means this year. At least not best picture. I loved the oscars last night…but was anyone else a tad bit bored?

  12. DAVE says:

The “In Memoriam” should have ended with the “Swayze walking into the light” image from the movie “Ghost.”

No Bea Arthur? But they included Michael Jackson? Don’t get that.

  13. 420BAND says:

The Break dancing to the Hurt Locker was Laughable……BIGTIME!

    WTF was that?

that was worse than Trick/mafia-66 or something winning an Oscar..well not worse.

Didnt know about the get-together guys, will try to be there next time.
