Spy Kids 4 gets Summer 2011 Release

Looks like Rodriguez will be rebooting Spy Kids, but it will still be a sequel to the original franchise with Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World

Screen Rant says:

Robert Rodriguez recently revealed his intention to reboot his own Spy Kids franchise. Now, Dimension Films has officially announced an August 19, 2011 release date. It will be entitled Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, even though the cast will be entirely new. Rodriguez told Coming Soon this reboot would have “different kids, not the old kids.”

With Rodriguez more recently producing such hard hitting films as Predators and adapting his fake trailer Machete into a feature film, to return to the family film seems odd.

They couldnt have the same kids since the two “kids” from the first franchise can now vote. But in the franchise their accidental promotion to superspies did trigger a new branch of the spy agency dedicated to other spy kids, so it just makes more sense to move on with a new cast.

I wonder if the original Spy Kids will cameo? Or the Spy Parents Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino?

Danny Trejo’s character in the Spy Kids films is Machete … Does this mean the inevitably gritty action film spawned from the Grindhouse fake trailer will be connected to Spy Kids?

I doubt that they will be connected in any way just by the name Machete. I remember watching the first one and it was ok. I wonder if Cheech Marin will also make a cameo, he seems to follow Robert Rodriguez a lot in his films as well. But this also seems to be a pattern for Robert Rodriguez, do some action or horror flicks with explosions and blood galore. Then go straight into a kids film.

Ya, he’s stated before that he likes to do a kids movie every now and then, because, as he puts it, it helps to keep his mind more stable, then just driving into R rated films all the time.

Too bad his kids movies aren’t as creative and worth while as his other stuff.

I loved the first three Spy Kids movies when I was younger, but it’s been years since I’ve last seen them. I highly doubt that I’ll see this, though.

Couln’t fathom watchin’ those films till…..I became a father, and now I watch them with Jr. and you know what?………..They weren’t that bad.

Rodriguez needs to stop making these kids films. His heart is in the right place, but needs to stick with gritty action films. Except for the first Spy Kids movie the rest of his family film just weren’t that good, and don’t get started on Spy Kids 3-D.

Hey Robert what’s up with Machete and Sin City 2?

Loved the first Spy Kids, the series went downhill after that. But the first one kicked ass, I loved it.

This isn’t cool. I loved Alexa Vega and whoever that douche who played her brother was. And Carla Gugino was HOT.

    Blah.
