Robert Culp dies at 79

Robert Culp, who became a household name with the TV series I Spy - the first integrated TV show with a black co-star and later filled in dozens of TV and movie roles has died after a fall outside his home.

USAToday shares:

Culp, 79, died Wednesday after hitting his head in a fall while walking outside his Hollywood home, his manager told the Associated Press.

The versatile Culp had more than 150 roles starting in 1953, including military officers, gunslingers and assorted bad guys. But the globe-trotting 1965-68 show I Spy helped make him a household name, as it did for Bill Cosby, the first African-American co-star of a TV drama series.

I personally will remember him most for his role as Max the FBI Agent in Greatest American Hero.

Unfortunate for him to meet his end in such an accidental manner. He will be missed.

Here is the opening credits of Greatest American Hero in tribute:

    Bill Maxwell. Not Max.

Very sad to hear, he also gave a great performance as Dr. Breene(?) in the Half-Life series, specifically Half-Life 2 where his creepy monologues over the speakers would follow you down every winding side street and blown apart alleyway. RIP.

I own the complete GAH TV Series, and Bill was never called Max. Sorry, Rodney. Rick from Canada is correct. And yeah, as Breen in the HL2 game, he was awesome.

Greatest American Hero was a fantastic show, loved watchin’ that one w/ family back in the day. and his part was often the comic relief element behind the “cant really fly” hijinks.

    weve lost another great one

    R.I.P.

    R.I.P. Robert

I have fond (but faded) memories of Culp and Cosby in I Spy, and of course loved him in GAH.

First we lose Peter Graves now Robert Culp, damn shame.

Rest in peace me ole’ son.
