Leonardo Da Vinci - Action Hero!

Leonardo Da Vinci is an inspiration to me. He did not rest on one aspect of creativity as it seemed to flow from his very being, challenging physics, math, engineering and of course his artistic endeavors.

But the Warners are drawing their attention to the one aspect no one suspects him of, and making him into a renaissance man of action and supernatural excitement! (that exclamation point is pretty sarcastic)

THR reveals:

The studio has picked up a treatment titled “Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever” from producer Adrian Askarieh, who is teaming with Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Da Vinci is best known as the painter behind “Mona Lisa” and “The Last Supper,” though he also was an inventor, engineer, architect, mathematician among many other occupations. The project re-imagines Da Vinci as a member of a secret society who falls headlong into a supernatural adventure that pits the man against Biblical demons in a story involving secret codes, lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels. Think “National Treasure” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” by way of “Clash of the Titans.”

Yup. Because this is the first thing I think of when I pay observance to the accomplishments of Leonardo Da Vinci.

And secret codes? Like… the Da Vinci code? Who would have thought of that??

Da Vinci was the subject of my Art History study as I was drawn to him for being more than just a painter but as a visionary, but there is a LOT of artistic liberty taken to treat the historical figure as an action hero.

But why the hell not. They can make Vampires glitter, make Batman look plausible, and make a scifi western space opera, so who’s to say that this will suck just because it isn’t what we expect?

I am trying to remain positive here, but I hope it doesn’t slap me in the face!

When I think of Da Vinci, I think of a picture of a helicopter he “invented.” I have my 5th grade teacher to thank for that. I don’t remember much back then, seeing that it was more than 20 years ago, but that’s one thing that stuck out in my mind about da Vinci. So I figure if a movie is to be made about him, that would be a pretty original topic, and it would be factual. But when it comes to historical figures being made in to science fiction, it’s just not appealing.

    Well, it COULD work…

    Leonardo Da Vinci = GOD

He invented almost everything so we should thank him by making a decent film about him as a tribute.

well when i think of Da Vinci i think of the game assasins creed II. Funny thing in assasins creed that i remember is under the history part where it explains Da Vinci it says “proposing that he was more than likely homosexual, and discussing his possible lovers (among other aspects of his life).”

i kinda think it would be cool to see a flamboyant gay man that invents super sick gadgets like in the game to ward of secret cult shit. I love a good gay character in a film where its not the main source of entertainment (except Hotrod from transformers..he killed prime!) and i think Da Vinci would be a great story for it.

btw i dont know if any of you have played the game but its a very good game IMO. If this movie doesnt get made it would be awesome to see Da Vinci in an assasins creed movie!

While pointing out the fact that Da Vinci might be historically appealing I doubt today’s audience would like Such Blasphemy being spread around about this great historical Figure!! (Sarcasm definitely intended) I for one could care less if he was gay! So what! It’s not my place to judge.

btw An Assassin’s Creed movie would totally kick ass… now that being said I still think that the game studios should have absolute say in making of those video game movies. If you remember they had complete control over those Live-Action mini-movies they made to Promote AC II. AND THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME…

        Ok I’ll stop talking now!!!!!!!

On mythbusters they took Da Vinci’s design for a glider and constructed it. The only flaw was the sail was backwards. If Da Vinci had built it, it would of been the first machine to take a man airborne.

My one hope for this film is that it brings to (filmic) life some of the ABSOLUTELY FCKING INCREDIBLE war machines that Da Vinci designed. Seriously, if his intentions had been anything less than pure , Da Vinci could have been the world’s first supervillain with some of the stuff he dreamed up.

BTW: is this film reminding anyone else of “Time After Time”, the film where H.G Wells had to hunt down Jack the Ripper?

    come on guys..

they painted sherlock holmes as an action hero!
    why not Leonardo ?
i think its cool…given his background it could make a nice story

    Jonah Hill to star?

Time after time was good, I remember that one from the theatre, and countless viewings on HBO back in the ol’ cable box days
