Each week will will kick off the dreary Monday by recapping the Boxoffice Results from the most recent weekend and share what insights we might have.
This week, it looks like DiCaprio and Scorsese were hitting a solid pace with their well received Shutter Island holding the #1 spot, Kevin Smith leads with the biggest opener of the weekend.
Smith - a confessed hockey fanatic, who appears to be taking harsh criticisms in stride, commented that he took Silver this weekend as it seemed like the trendy thing to do. He also comments that the film took more at the boxoffice than WB was projecting, which is a win for him and other projects that he wants to bring to the studio giant.
The Crazies, the better of the two new films this weekend in my opinion came in third.
Here is the official breakdown via Boxoffice Mojo
Shutter Island $22,206,000 2nd wk
Cop Out $18,565,000 Opening
The Crazies $16,521,000 Opening
Avatar $14,000,000 11 wks
Percy Jackson $9,800,000 3rd wk
Did you get out this weekend? What did you see, or wished you had?
I really like this new feature and lovin the new look…..
Did you really think the Crazies was better than Shutter Island? Cmon, I’ve seen both and the Crazies was pretty good but Shutter Island was fantastic man.
Nah… I thought the crazies was more enjoyable. The new look is great by the way, i’m really loving it lol.
I meant to type better of the two NEW films this weekend… which I have corrected.
Shutter Island was better, but hard to compare a deep thinking film to a zombie-esque suspense horror.
Have you seen the original Crazies, rodney? What did you think of that? The girl in the remake riding the bike past the sheriff when the town is deserted is an actress named Lynn Lowry and she was in the original. She was also in Cronenberg’s Shivers as well.
I haven’t seen the original, but I like that they cameo’d one of the original actresses in this film.
I like hearing about those kind of nods. It shows a respect for the original.
You should check that movie out. It’s really good for what it is. I mean Romero made it with little to no money and it’s a cool little film. Same with Shivers. Lots of good shlock(y) horror came out in the 70’s that went unnoticed.
Nice to have this feature on the site. I’m always interested to see how films do financially.
Does anyone know the budget of The Crazies? Hope it makes some $$$
God, still waiting for Shutter Island played in my country. Never like DiCaprio, but seems he always end up getting a darn good directors and scripts to play with. In the end, I watch (almost)all his movies. Ironic.
As for the Crazies, I pass. Not my kind of movie.
(I see Avatar still make the money. Loves it ^_^)
