Seems that a Twihard fangirl named Kayla Patterson sent fan mail to Universal regarding their take on The Wolfman asking how they could produce such a crappy imitation clearly ripped off from the pages of Twilight.
Even worse that they would be so ignorant as to write a plot line suggesting a silver bullet could kill a werewolf… and what’s up with those halfbreed monster werewolves huh? Jacob Black was so much better.

To whom this may concern:This movie was a complete waste and I feel that it offends ALL Twilight Fans around the world, that including myself. For one, it was a COMPLETE remaking of the Wolf Pack from the Twilight Saga: New Moon. It gives the werewolves a bad name and makes them look like some deformed mutation of a rabid dog. I actually started to like werewolves after seeing Jacob Black and all his awesomeness on the big screen at the movies. That was until I saw your crappy remake of what you call to be a “were wolf”. I don’t see how you live with yourself for making it the way you did. If I made this movie, I would be ashamed to even admit that I owned it.
How can a werewolf be killed with a silver bullet? Better yet, have you saw the transformation of the man that is “supposed” to be the wolf? If you would watch the transformation of Jacob Black, (Taylor Lautner) he doesn’t come close to looking as fake, cheap and or mutated as the wolf man.

I don’t defend the quality of Twilight, but I don’t think it is as embarassingly bad as some want to think it is. I don’t insist you have to be a fan, but I still see some redeeming qualities even as I recognize how wont appeal to everyone. It connects with a REAL version of an irrationally emotional teenage girl, and a fresh look at the traditional archetypes of mythical creatures.
But this is a prime example of the irrational ignorance that breeds Twilight such a rabid following. Its downright comical reading the fan hatemail claiming that Twilight was the origin of Werewolf stories, and how The Wolfman was clearly ripping it off.
Kind of like how True Blood and Vamprie Diaries ripped off Twilight as well. (They did ride the vampire fame, but they both predate Twilight)
I love the irony that Twilight often is criticized for “getting vampires and werewolves wrong” while this fan holds Twilight as the standard by which other werewolves will be judged.

I’m sorry Rodney but you are so very very VERY wrong here. If you look back at Nickelodeon in the 90’s and look at it today, there is a HUGE difference. Even the Disney channel was better. We had “Pete and Pete,” “All That” (before it was completely brainless), “Are You Afraid of The Dark” (a show they would never air today for fear of scaring young kids, god forbid).
The teenagers of today’s generation were and still are subject to shows like the Teletubbies and Yo Gabba Gabba (fuckin retarded show that treats kids like they’re mindless morons).
Show’s in my day, yes they were childish but they had some substance. My childhood was one where the tv wasn’t afraid to scare the shit out of a little kid and one that wasn’t afraid to cover more complex material. Today they present a show as something for an 8 year old when it’s really for a 3 year old.

You’re much older than me so you wouldn’t even have the slightest idea (even IF you have kids) of what age group Teletubbies was aimed at. All I know is that I use to get up in the morning and watch specific cartoons that had actual plots (however basic they may have been) and then they replaced two of my shows with the fuckin Teletubbies. The shows I was watching prior to that, were definitely not for toddlers. Nothing in that time slot was. Teletubbies is aimed at TODDLERS, no matter what you say, you cannont compare the intelligence of that series to shows aimed at 10-13 year olds. There is no comparison.
At that developmental stage, teletubbies are PERFECT for toddlers. Repetition, bright colours and very simple patterns. It isn’t meant to entertain anyone who can put a sentence together.
I DO have kids, and even without them I could tell that teletubbies is aimed at children BECAUSE I CAN READ “Teletubbies is a BBC BAFTA-winning children’s television series, primarily aimed at pre-school viewers, produced from 1997 to 2001 by Ragdoll Productions.” So even the creators of that show knew it would have declining appeal outside of the age of 3.

Wow….that’s all I can say. I am no lover of Twilight, have no desire to see it probably never will, and I understand things have rabid followings but this is just flat out dumb.
The sad part is MANY teenagers these days are so ignorant to things of the past, they are not “cool”. They have no idea where things come from, how things originate, and sadly, they don’t care. You try to present them with how things came to be and they don’t want to hear it. What they like is better than anything that came before it and that’s it they don’t want to hear another word about it. Criticize what they like and they will just flip out. Try to get them to embrace the past of cinema, and they don’t care, its all “for old people”.
This is precisely why I make a conscious effort to show my kids movies that I grew up with and guess what? They love them. They appreciate the things that I love while at the same time loving what they are growing up with.
Some parents are so disconnected from their children, and then wonder why when the kids become teenagers the kids want nothing to do with them. I’m not saying that kids are like this strictly because of their parents but it sure is a big reason why so many kids are the way they are these days. Parenting is not easy, and it seems a lot of parents do as little as possible.
I agree with you! I’ve always showed my kid movies I grew up and continue to show her movies from the past. I do the same thing with books and music. In return I take an active interest in things she wants to share with me. Being a parents is more than ordering a kid around it’s about being a part of their lives. Sure sometimes my kid will ditch me for a weekend with her friends, but I’d be worried if she didn’t!
WOW! Thank God my parents were somewhat movie lovers and I learned what was Classic and what was quality early on. I remember a big book that had like the best or most important movies of that decade. kinda like “1001 movies you must see before you die” kinda stuff. I think its important for this stuff, as well as history of music to be , if not taught in schools or art/music classes so kids can get educated and respect the art form for it is. and not be so shut-off from the history and origins of cinema.
That and maybee Del Toro could of had more shots of him with his shirt off…HA HA

I would like to believe it’s fake as well. However, I’ve spoken to several kids who won’t see a black and white film because b&w = boring. For one of them, I asked what he thought about watching Schindler’s List and his reply was, “No I haven’t seen it nor its remake”.
My point is, I’ll believe that a kid would write something as ignorant as the Twilight rant because I’ve witnessed that level of ignorance in person.
There was a teenage girl who wrote a letter in this exact vein to the Australian radio show (Hamish and Andy) after they made fun of Twilight, where she said that vampires don’t turn into bats in the day, they *sparkle*, etc.
I loved the alternative aspects of vampirism presented in Twilight (eg- vegetarianism), but to ignore the more traditional stuff, or to be completely ignorant of it is just sad.

Well, she doesn’t claim that Universal ripped werewolves from Twilight. In fact, she states that she only started liking werewolves because of Twilight. She simply thinks that the Universal werewolf looks fake and cheap.
That said, Wolfman sucked. The transformation scene was badass, and the effects were pretty cool. The acting was average, though. And the “original” werewolf looked like Smigel/Gollum. And the pacing was just awful…

But these movies convince these kids that it is.
As much as you can blame the kids or their parents you can blame these movies for destroying the mythology of these creatures. You do realize that you are doing the same thing as she is.
You despise it because it is “wrong” with the creatures of mythos? Why is it not ok to explore a fantasy film where it IS ok to be a Werewolf or a Vampire. If you read the books you would see that is one of the themes that runs through all the books. Not every vampire wants to be one. As Bella faces the decision to become a Vampire, there are vamps that are ok with it, and others who are completely against it.
And your second paragraph is a complete contradiction to the first. You despise Twilight because of its ignorant fans and that they “destroy” the mythology of those creatures. But then say you don’t disparage those who like it?

It doesn’t destroy the mythology. Its fiction, and like all fiction its not real. Just like the not real thing it was inspired by.
I think Twilight does a fine job introducing a world of mythology that is not the easy storybook monster route. But because at its heart its a teen emo romance, it loses that broader appeal.
Withches and warlocks are not supposed to be “cool” either. Dark practitioners of satanic magicks and all…. but Harry Potter did just fine with it.

What I do despise is the people who hail this as the be all end all, the very thing that defines vampires and werewolves. The ignorant ones who think that everything pales in comparison to Twilight. Ok, I know what you are gonna say, I am doing the same thing, I am being ignorant and that I should give Twilight a chance. Everything I have seen, everything I have heard from people who have seen the movies and read the books, nothing about it appeals to me. If I saw anything that was even remotely appealing to me in these movies, i’d give them a chance, but to this point I have not.

Sadly this girl represents a good number of ill informed teens. I’ve read their craziness all over fan sites. It’s pretty disheartening at times. It’s even taken some of the joy I had during my Twilight fangirl period. I always recognized the flaws, but I enjoyed the story as did my daughter. It gave us something fun to share together until we grew bored and moved on to the next thing.
I must say I’m even more grateful to have an intelligent level headed teenager.

Still the fact remains that despite Twilight borrowing from those series, they BOTH would never have been created into TV series if it was not for Twilight.
Each of them were pitched and failed to get a TV deal in the 90s, even with the success of Buffy. It wasn’t until Twilight hit it so big that these authors were approached for deals.
So in a way, these shows have at least that much to thank Twilight for.
