James Cameron Talks about AVATAR 2

By Brock - January 16, 2010 - 12:11 America/Montreal

It’s no secret in Hollywood when you create a cash cow, the inevitable sequel talk is not far behind. James Cameron sat down and talked about Avatar 2, and he had in mind a sequel even while filming Avatar.

Movies Online gives us the rundown:

“I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start — there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron says. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan.

The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters — that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again.” Sam Worthington is already signed to play Jake Sully again, and he e-mailed EW some plot suggestions for the sequel: “Jake should have abused his avatar and be fat and unfit and demand Neyteri to get him a beer.”

I am still waiting for the Titanic sequel.

“I am still waiting for the Titanic sequel.”

    Ha ha, you’re funny.

  2. Dragonslayer says:

“I’m still waiting for the Titanic sequel” LOL Me too!

I’m all up for an Avatar sequel, and I don’t agree with all this “Dances with Wolves ripoff” stuff. Many people praised Benjamin Button, including myself, but it had a lot of Forrest Gump in it. There are several movies that have similarities between each other.

  3. Matt Keith says:

I still say the first was great as a stand alone film.

  4. 420BAND says:

Me too. the 1st should be it.keep it sacred, BUT then again it’s hard to stop this monster..

  5. TheDarkKnight says:

I have to agree with the two commenters above.

I was actually hoping they would make more movies in the Avatar universe but not sequels or prequels I’d much rather see other stories in the world hes created.

Pandora is beautiful but how about in the next movie Pandora isn’t the center of the story.

I’d like to see him expand the scope of the project and maybe make a multi planet war sometime in the future etc.

I think Avatar was great but it certainly has the potential to be an entire world sort of like Star Wars IMO>

I could actually be quite interested in Avatar 2, if they gave me promise that the whole “introducing the Na’vi” scenes don’t continue in it. For me the most boring thing about Avatar was the hour and a half where they just basically showcased their lifestyle and values. I got it from the trailer that their religion is nature, I don’t need to be explained it further for an hour and a half!

Avatar 2 could be more story based and less about introductions. Give Avatar 2 with a strong story or other theme that will really grip me, and I’ll pay for the movie ticket AND DVD(/BluRay).

    • Derbmeister says:

After paying the 9.50 to see a great movie in 3D, I actually don’t mind sitting there for almost three hours, I would have sat there for another hour of the “religion and nature”, it’s what the movie was all about. I don’t understand why people complain so much about long movies. If you want to sit through a short crappy CGI movie then plan ahead, look at the run times and go see the Chipmunks.

  7. Jim says:

This was one of the few movies that I really thought didn’t need a sequel at all.

    • Brock says:

Ya where do they go from here and why do they need Sam Worthington? It’s just him as an avatar now right

      • Derbmeister says:

Sam is needed for the voice and movement of the character. I’m sure they’ll even pay him more for doing the sequel.

  8. Lawrence says:

Having two more Avatar movies will make Jim Cameron the King of the Universe.

  9. 420BAND says:

    He already is!

  10. Kevin C says:

I am sold on anything “Avatar” from here on out…the most fun Ive had in a theater, maybe ever.

  11. Pedro says:

I think if he originally planned to have 2 sequels then he must have some kind of story line already planned out.

It’s the same with SW, we’ve heard he originally planned 9 films, it was only the success of Ep IV that he was able to continue with ESB and RoTJ.

Avatar’s probably been a bigger success than JC or even Fox ever dreamed, so if he has a story, and hopefully it’s a good one, then I say go for it.

  12. SlashBeast says:

Well, since Avatar is basically Pochahontas, there’s a neat story for a sequel from Pochahontas 2 where the Nav’ii can go to Earth.

  13. TheReyningDevil says:

lol, and the Nav’ii led by Pochohontas will journey to earth on banshees… hope the banshees can reach light-speed…!!!
