The very unique graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens was set to star Robert Downey Jr as the main cowbow, but with Sherlock Holmes getting the fasttrack to sequelville, RDJ has backed out leaving a job opening. Well rumours had Daniel Craig in negotiations for the role (with Bond on hold it seemed likely)
And Daniel Craig it is!
Daniel Craig has indeed replaced Robert Downey Jr. for the adaptation COWBOYS & ALIENS. RDJ exited the project because he wanted to film SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 which starts shooting this summer at the same time that COWBOYS VS. ALIENS starts production….Craig will play cowboy Zeke Jackson who starts as alliance with the Indians, as they join forces to battle Aliens.
That kind of changes my anticipation for the film. While I am sure Craig will do a great job kicking alien ass, I was really digging the massive amounts of personality Robert Downey Jr would have brought to the adaptation.
That being said, I would sooner see him do Sherlock 2, and Craig will do fine to replace him.

I know everybody likes his Bond, BUT I cant jump on his bandwagon for some reason, and a cowboy seems like a stretch for him. of course I’m probally alone in this.

So we’ve got the American Downey Jr playing Sherlock Holmes, and the Brit Craig playing a cowboy! I can’t help but think there was a mix up somewhere.

RDJ was perfect for this, but well schedule is schedule, can’t change that right? but its interesting to see how DC is gonna play the part as zeke. he might surprise us and i hope he does ;)
