The Cup of Tears Trailer Online

— Posted by Rodney

Sometimes when playing video games there are cutscenes that are just so amazing I wonder what a whole film created using the same stylings would look like.

Well that film might just be The Cup of Tears, a CGI Live action Hybrid film directed by Gary Shore.

Geek Tyrant describes it as:

Follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.

That was pretty awesome.

This was filmed on an ultra low budget using the new RED camera (Same camera John used for The Anniversary). Recently discussions about live action anime adaptations costing too much to meet the visual appeal of its source material. I think this is an option that certainly proves it is possible.

I look forward to checking that out really soon.

I thought it looked ok, but it did overdo the slo-mo.

    “Hi Guys,

I’m very happy to see that The Cup of Tears film trailer is now out there and been seen by people.

Just to clear things up… This is a stand alone trailer, done on a budget of 20k Euro. If you are expecting Hollywood for that money then you will be disappointed. The film is a homage to Manga and took almost two years to make. Each matte painting I did myself. Compositing and 3d was completed by Windmilllane Post Production, Dublin.

If you would like to see a film like this get made then please send it on to others. The more people that see the trailer the better chance I have of making the film a reality.

    Regards

    Gary Shore”

      Whoops, forgot the link… http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3133943

Anyway, thats a quote by the director. Personally I think it’s a pretty impressive trailer made off a 20k euros budget.

It’s only ultra low budget if they are doing everything themselves, like they are. Hiring a outside company to do these types of effects, like any studio would do, would raise the price considerably.

    look fucking shit to me.
    ultraviolet anyone?

Looks like 300 in samurai costumes….

Am I mistaken in thinking this is done similar to the way 300 was done? Live actors with a totally green screened environment? Loved the eye candy of 300, and this looks like just as much eye candy. In other words, I like it.

    Hey Rodney,

I agree that this does prove that anime adaptations could happen under the right direction but this style of Final Fantasy like graphics has been done before. Not taking away anything from this movie because i think it looks very well done, but i think you should check out Casshern and Goemon both directed by Kazuaki Kiriya. They are both amazing.

Ya there is a bit of cheese factor in some of the scenes, but over all its looks really good.

Is it just me or does this look a little bit like “Samurai Jack” without the robots lol

I think it’s pretty bad looking. Why do I want to watch a video game? I’d rather play one. …And I don’t really do that much anymore either. I’m sure it will have it’s fanbase. But I’m far more excited for Ninja Assassin. If I’m going to see a film shot with Actors … I want to see the actual actors. This is why I don’t like Beowolf, Polar Express, and am not looking forward to A Christmas Carol.
