And yes, because nothing is sacred and Beatlemania is making a resurgence in other mediums there is a remake of the Beatles film Yellow Submarine in the works.
It will be done by Robert Zemeckis, so that means Motion Capture animation. So at least that tradition will remain true. How close it might be to the original remains to be seen, but a general casting call has gone out that might give us some hints about the supporting cast.

I am indifferent to the rage by Beatles fans who think this film should not be remade. I would love to have something like this re-introduced to a new generation. I tried showing my kids the original Yellow Submarine and they were bored within minutes. Its a new game out there.
Anything can be remade if its done well. I saw the Karate Kid remake trailer and though I was purely against the idea… it actually looks pretty decent. Not going to win any Oscars or anything, but its not terrible.

Why is this movie being made, I love the Beatles so much, but yellow submarine was a type of movie that could only come out in the 60s

Bad idea. No one will go see this. The original was bad enough.
This is not a bad idea at all. The combination of modern (psychedelic?) motion capture ala Avatar plus Beatles is potentially awesome. Yes of course it’s Disney/Zemeckis. Cheesey, family, whatevs. The original was not a great movie and could certainly use a better story line (though it seems that story line is about the last thing any movie has going for it. Avatar? Please.) But it’s a family movie by design- it’s gonna be older Beatle fans bringing their kids, not a bunch of hipsters looking for it to be re-born as Children of Men. It’s easy to be cynical and the movie will likely be OK, not GREAT but like I always say, any Beatles is good Beatles. And it will at least have Paul and Ringo’s voices at the very least, maybe actual cameos. Sweet. I will remain optimistic. at least until I see some previews.
after seeing the cut scenes in The Beatles:Rock Band i say something like this, with right blend of trippy art, music & story, could be done pretty well. sign me up
I’m going 2 c the movie when it comes out just 2 c if they did a good job but i doubt it will b good or close 2 the original. but i hope it will at least b as entertaining as the original :)
