Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Not sure how this got past me but, this new original series on Starz looks like all kinds of awesomeness. To me, it looks like a cross between 300 and Gladiator. The only issue I have is that many of the scenes look very CGI. Anyone else agree? Anyways, if you are like me, this somehow got by you as well.

Ok be honest, who else missed this and is now really excited to see this?
I don’t know, it looks like such a blatant 300/gladiator rip-off that i don’t know how to feel about it. however they do seem to have some solid actors on this thing so maybe i’ll check it out. who knows, it could be awesome (but yeah, the cgi is a bit too visible)
I dont know it looks like recoloured for some reason, like 300 hs that colourish to make it look like comic, and here they did the same with different dimension or something…

Come on man you gotta have an open mind… sure some of scene have shitty Graphics but this is TV not the Movies.
When your doing a Television series the studios don’t give you enough money to have ILM do the CGI for you, Most of the money goes to the Production of the show and the Cast and Crew.
He said it will be THE shit, not it will BE shit. Just pointing that out. I think it looks awesome, and I like the CG work, looks better than the CG work in Ninja Assassins (and yes, I’m still dogging that movie to hell and back).
Yeah, I didn’t say this was gonna be bad. This show’s gonna kick some Roman butt!
Behold the misuse of CG backgrounds but I’m still interested. SEX & VIOLENCE baby, sometimes that’s all we need!
To anyone who says this looks like a gladiator rip off ITS SPARTICUS! Gladiator was a rip of sparticus! But yeah this really wants to be 300 the television series. I will watch it because I have stars and I can but i have no expectations.
Starz has been showing some behind the scenes footage for a couple of months and I saw a few familiar faces in the cast. This should somewhat satisfy all of us who miss Rome on HBO.

If you guys think the movie is great, and so do I, you should all read the original book Spartacus, which I have. The author who wrote the story, wrote it for his children and others that they would honor freedom and human dignity and live nobly, that all who read it “may take strength for thier troubled future and that they may struggle against oppression and wrong-so that the dream of Spartacus may come to be in our own time.” He published the book himself in 1951 and 1952. The book is phenomenal, and like all books versus movies, they contain so much more that is sometimes lost.
yea the cgi looks a bit too obvious but some solid performance here though. the lead guy looks the part, and the top pic of this post, he looks like Magneto.. :)
Remember reading an article a while back where they said they were mainly inspired by the fight scenes in Rome which were pretty amazing, just hope theres some story in there somewhere
Rome’s fight scenes were visceral, like some kind of ancient version of Saving Private Ryan; Spartacus’ fight scenes are very badly done. The special effects look like a poor rip off of 300. It looks shit, and they’re trying too hard with the ‘Oh, look how vulgar these Thracians are!’.
Just watched the pre…it’s total crap…shit acting, poor photography..they even dragged up Jack Thompson to do a small scene at the beginning
Funny. I’ve seen quite a few episodes now (approximately 5, though not in order) and I can say, without reservation, that this is a well written, entertaining show. It’s got tons of action and is HARDLY porn. Unless you’re a typically puritanical American with sexual repression issues, then it is FAR from it. And for the record: no, I didn’t work on the show, nor do I have one damn thing to do with it.
Seriously, this is the ONLY message board that is overwhelmingly anti-Spartacus anywhere. All the others are excited and fun. This one is dreary and keeps repeating the same (and incredibly inaccurate) complaints of how this is “just pron” and has no acting (not to mention the silly threads about male nudity).
It’s a good show. It’s well written, well acted and well produced. Is it going to be the best show ever made? Certainly not. Is it fun with great action, sexy actors, good dialog, memorable scenes and characters, etc?

For god’s sake, people, I’d rather have network coming up with shows like this than another Melrose Place, 90210, CSI: Nantucket, NCIS: Goldblum, etc…etc…etc…

Theres no way youve seen 5 episodes theres is only 2 out which were pre’d so your full of crap to begin with….Ive seen both episdoes which sucked the story was a total rip off of gladiator so blatant and the cgi was really bad not even close to the 300 look it looks as a bunch of college kids made it just my opinion but wait till ya see it you wont be impressed.

spartacus has such nice effects, however the movie seems to be a copyright of the gladiator movie. I like its story line and i am looking forward to watching its third episode.
Just saw the premiere and was very happy impressed with the gladiator scene. Although, I am not a big fan of the “300″ type, comic book graphics but overall I think it was a very watchable show.
Just watched it. A little too much sex, but very entertaining.

what a damn movie series.I think this movie will hit numbers than any other series because producer has identified what audience want(sex,love,fight,violence,blood,pride,cunning).
It’s utter crap. The writing is terrible, the acting even worse. I could barely watch half of the first episode before switching off. Oh yeah, and the special effects are absolute ass. Watch Rome instead!
Florus, Roman historian, described Spartacus as one “who from Thracian mercenary, had become a Roman soldier, of a soldier a deserter and robber, and afterwards, from consideration of his strength, a gladiator”.

Love the show but was disappointed and strongly taken back by the events of the recent episode “Party Favors”. Anyone else out there also feeling that the show made a wrong turn?
