Paranormal Activity 2?
Paranormal Activity is one of those films that needs no advertising because the word of mouth on this and its viral status alone did it all.
But as per the rule in Hollywood, if it makes money (and this film made 2000 times its cost on its first week) then they will likely do a sequel.
Dark Horizons shares:
Costing a mere $11,000 to make, the studio picked up the rights to the film for $300,000 and spent less than $10 million on marketing with most of the promotion coming from online viral campaigns and word of mouth via a staged rollout releasing scheme throughout October.Going wide this week, the film sat at the top of the box-office with $22 million - easily beating the critically slammed “Saw VI” which opened in more theatres to $14.8 million.
This phenomenon is widely being compared to The Blair Witch, and we saw how that sequel worked out so well.
The very reason that this film made so much money and gained so much popularity is precisely why they should hesitate to make a sequel.
A sequel to this would be completely uninspired and possibly unrelated. Since you and I have both seen the film, we both know that if the sequel picks up where the first one left off, it wouldn’t even be scary. It’d just be… crap! Because that ending was so brilliant. I wasn’t even scared until the last five minutes! That’s what sold me and had me scared and nearly gave me insomnia.
Oh, and by the way, love all the podcasts. Best movie-related podcast out there, man
You thought that ending was brilliant? Really? It reminded me of countless japanese horror movies about a girl with black hair. Hell they showed half of that scene in the trailer. I thought the movie was complete garbage. Seeing shadows on the walls, or plants move just doesn’t do it for me.
I have to admit… I’ve probably seen less than ten horror films in my life. I do hear that the Japanese have made some amazing horror films.
And the shadows and stuff wasn’t really scary to me. It was ending that had me screaming like a little girl
It could work, just use her sister. I really enjoyed this movie. Don’t automatically write off a sequel, that’s not being fair.
There’s no way a sequel works here…no way…one of two movies to ever actually freak me out, and i’d love another one..but there’s no way it’d work and have the same effect…leave it be.
The problem with sequels is after the first success expectations becomes super high for the sequel and in the end it probably gonna suck
I think they could make it work as a series possibly. Like the Romero movies maybe, not chronological, or even really related, just bearing similar monikers. No way in hell should they make a direct sequel though.
OH GOD PLEASE NO SEQUEL! Leave us scared as shiz after watching the first one and know that you did a good job at that. Now move on to finding the guy who keeps writing saw scripts and cut off his thumbs!
I made this prediction a few weeks ago in a conversation with some friends. It’s amazing how predictable hollywood is. Instead of letting something be great, they are going to beat the dead horse; like they did with Saw.
I don’t think Saw beat the dead horse because the “Puzzle” is revealing itself slowly.
Is that sarcasm? I stopped watching after 4…

Well they could always just make a sequel and have it completely unrelated to the first.
BTW this movie was really good, especially because they re-made the ending, so much better than whats floating around the net.
greed motivates hollywood theyll make a sequel and even if it tanks in theaters itll make its money back on dvd sales and on tv airings.
