Anthony Hopkins in Talks to play Thor’s Odin

Are we close to finding out who is officially in to wear Odin’s Beard? It seems that Anthony Hopkins has been approached for the role and is currently in talks to take the job. While nothing is final yet, I hope this comes to pass!

Sir Anthony Hopkins is in talks to play a Norse Allfather in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Hopkins is said to be for the role of Odin, father to Thor and his evil adopted brother Loki.
If not Brian Blessed, this would be my pick for the powerful yet soft father figure of all Norse Mythology.
Odin is often depicted in the myths as stern yet compassionate. A wild temper only fueled by his sensitive emotions. Hopkins has proven he can be scary ass in presence and rages with the best of them. But he is a soft gentle soul as well.
This would be perfect for me.
What did happen to Brian Blessed? I don’t like AH in this role. Great actor, but not the beast that should play Odin.
Brian Blessed is great…but he’s a ‘B’ actor at best, wonderful in ensemble pieces, many of which I’ve seen. (Recently -for me, anyway- in Branagh’s ‘As You Like It’.)
Hopkins chews up scenery when not well-directed…which should be interesting under Branagh’s helm, because a certain bombast will be required as Odin.
My bet is that this choice will turn out just fine.
Hopkins is awesome! BUT has his fair share of cheesy roles..
I hope they dont get super Shakesperian in the dialoge department, I know thats how all the Thor Comics were written(originals, anyway) but it kinda sucked having to read that stuff, THATS WHY THE AVENGERS WAS SO COOL cause it had Thor and he was the only one who talked like that…
Hmm cool. I could see this being cool if he does a good job. He has indeed had a bunch of cheese roles but when he’s good I really like him.
This is really good news. I hope he gets the role.
Anthony Hopkins is an amazing actor. He was so great in Beowulf and in Silence of the Lambs. He was even good in that shit film Alexander.
I like AH in the role, I see a lot of him as Odin in Beowulf.
That being said, I heard an interesting Captain America casting idea today.
Jason O’Mara, last seen in Life on Mars on ABC as the Captain. Granted he doesn’t has the exposure of a lot of other prospective Captains, but he does have the build (unlike DiCaprio and Damon).
Dude, go look at the Invictus Trailer and tell me Damon isn’t buff.
Seriously, he is massive now.
Damon has the build. I do think he is a good pick, but I know people will complain about his height.
I’m fine both Hopkins and Blessed. I’m sure both would do well in this role. I just want them to get started in filming this soon!
I know I look at Damon and think to myself…he might just be a supersoldier…
