Rainn Wilson - Superhero?

By Rodney - September 11, 2009 - 08:28 America/Montreal

Proving that Superhero films don’t have to be ripped from the pages of the comic books, James Gunn is diving head first into his own film called Super.

And just to guarantee its boxoffice success the proven and fool proof superstar of the big screen Rainn Wilson will star as the lead. (please note the sarcasm before you jump down and comment!!)

Cinema Blend offers:

Rainn Wilson is set to star in Super as an average guy who starts calling himself Crimson Bolt after his wife falls under the sway of a drug dealer.

[James Gunn] describes Super as, “dark, comedic, gritty, very unusual, and grounded,” which is good news if like me, you had visions of Tim Allen movies in your head. He insists “it’s not a spoof”, but rather “what it’s really about is love, violence, perseverance, and faith.” And just to piss the Catholic Church off he adds, ” I think of it as The Passion for rebels, oddballs, fanboys, and freaks everywhere.”

I think I liked this premise better when it was called Kickass, and had a normal guy with no powers in a normal world decide to costume up to fight crime.

The film also will star Liv Tyler, who will play Rainn’s wife who is seduced by a drug lord. If you were as hot as Liv and married to Rainn… I think a glamourous badboy would stand a pretty good chance of grabbing her attention.

Ellen Page is also involved and will be dressing up superhero style to become Crimson Bolt’s kid sidekick. Maybe she can be the Emerald Snark! That’s her superpower.

Kind of awkward to be working with James Gunn, eh?

Rip offs of ripoffs of ripoffs.

I actually have always wanted to see Ellen Page as a superhero’s sidekick. A female Robin was what I had in mind, but eh, like Christopher Nolan is going to put more women into the Batman trilogy.

  8. SlashBeast says:

I’ve noticed that a lot of superhero movies not based on comic books seem to be parodies of the genre. Interesting.
